People of Luz tear off Maddie posters

Residents point at the little girl’s parents and say they are fed up with a situation they are alien to and that has been damaging tourism

by Ana Palma

Of the big campaign about Maddie’s disappearance that was launched by the McCanns in the area of Luz, Lagos, there was little left, yesterday afternoon, apart from half a dozen posters that had been affixed on bus stops and outdoors. The local population has torn off and shredded the rest of them, throwing them into the garbage.

“They put up a poster on my shop window but I took it off right away”, CM was told by Luís Mamede, the owner of an optics store in Luz, who sees this campaign as “another massacre” for the people in Luz. “It’s enough!”, he said, stressing that “Luz is being hurt by a situation that is alien to it: The child’s parents are to blame but it’s the people who live and work here that have been hurt. Tourists with children are afraid of coming here. That’s unfair, because Luz has always been safe”.

Tiredness and indignation were, in fact, the emotions shown to CM by the locals. For Ana Santos, this campaign by the McCanns “is a clown circus. It’s normal that people remove the posters, because they have nothing to do with what happened and they’ve been seriously hit”. Emílio Caracol says he’s “fed up”. And he adds: “I don’t know the McCanns. I’ve had two children and I’ve guarded them, and I guard my four grandchildren as well.”

The “uselessness” of this campaign was recognised by English citizens Steven Gray and Alan Fox, who were taking a walk around Luz yesterday: “If Maddie is alive, she’s not here.” Concerning the removal of the posters, they consider that “people want to forget and the case is bad for tourism”.

    In the article "McCann family launches campaign"( here, in "Joana"), Maria C. Lopes posted a comment with the web adress to the "Independent" article on this subject. It seems that the paper was brave( or silly)enough to allow comments from the readers on that article. Almost imediatelly the comments flooded the paper, and they were not pretty for the McCanns, for what I could see all of them were so very critical of the McCanns actions and the behaviour of the british press on this case, not one single favourable comment! It seems that some of the british people have alredy opened their eyes and know a few facts, I believe it is due to excellent sites like this one (THANK YOU JOANA)who fight the battle for free and accurate information!
    But it all soon got eraced from the online paper, it seems the comments were not what the editors expecting, they must have been really surprised at the outpoor of displeasure from their readers, or maybe they got a visit from Carter- Ruck and the "pink one"...
    Fortunatelly some clever minds saved and copyed the article and the comments on their blogs and sites, they are available, for instance, in "3 Arguidos".
    A standing ovation to Joana and Astro and all others who will not be silenced! BRAVO!!!

  5. After this the mellow tone of the recent "courtship" with the algarvians, whose help the Mccann apparently felt the sudden need of, will soon change.I'm sure we will hear and see aunt Philly or uncle John lashing out on "those savage, uneducated, third-wordly portuguese people, how dare they tare off our posters"! Well, what can you expect from people who once were "fascists", then "communists" and believe it is not responsible parenting to leave the children alone at home so that one can enjoy "adult-time"?
    "after all, it was our holiday too"( one of tapas9 comment, Oldfield?) Yeah, it was nothing but your holiday...

  6. Great that the kind people of PDL showed their caracter, enough is enough, the McCs offend the friendly people more than ever. And going on and on and on. Flying over Europe to put attention away from where they knew Madeleine still was. Now they are sure the little Madeleine will not be found and the think to hide themselves behind a not working smokeshreen.
    Hope for justice for our Madeleine a.s.a.p.

  7. Sehr gut.

  9. About the man who did not leave the table that evening.

    Amaral tell in his book that a couple denounced him to the British police( May the 16th) as having paedophile's tendences and the British police held this information till after Amaral left. It seems that the PJ heard it at the end of October.Why protect that man? If he was the whole evening at the Tapas, he is the less suspect one of the group.
    Speaking about the Brittish authorities allowing the dogs going to Algarve: they did not expect the child have being dead for longer than an hour and a half, two hours.They even did not expect cadaver scent in the red T-shirt, wore before she should be bathed.They believed in an accident at about 9.00 pm, after the child was dressed up in pajamas.

  10. Welcome to the Algarve, McCanns!

    Going to the Holy Mass at the N.S. da Luz on Sunday the 3rd?

    People who supported you, applauded you and helped(not you, of course!) searching for Madeleine on the first 3 months are coming too.
    You will love to see those true people again!

  14. Im not sure what I make of this, Im glad the McCanns are taking flack even if its not here in Britain, but the posters baring Madeleine's picture being shredded make me feel uncomfortable and sad that she has now represents such hostility...even if indirectly.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I did NOT write this but I know who did.
    1)...I ALWAYS tell people who I am because I have the courage of my own convictions and I am not a snivelling cowardly anon.
    2)...I can spell and the person that wrote this cannot.
    3)...Any post I make elsewhere, I will always put a duplicate of it on my blog so people KNOW it is me. Note this post does NOT appear there.
    The person that wrote this is a sick and twisted narcissistic liar.
    What I actually think of you Ms Morais could not be printed. But I am not annoyed with you, I actually pity you for what you are doing here and the rest of you because karma will sort you out, just as it is now beginning to sort out Praia da Luz.
    By the way if PDL is in the news again for all the wrong reasons thank the right wing racist cretins that think it is OK to defile the posters of an innocent child.
    You call what you are doing justice for Madeleine?please do not make me laugh. It has nothing what so ever to do with Madeleine, for you and all the other minority idiots, it has NEVER been about Madeleine, it has only ever been about protecting your stinking filthy paedophiles and your tourist industry.
    Too late people know, why should they risk their children in a country that cares more about a corrupt police officer and puts it tourist industry before an innocent child?
    Unless the Portuguese government acts against Goncalo Amaral and stops him pimping off a child he FAILED and unless it gets it act together and Portugal gets a DNA based sex offenders register and starts putting the welfare of children as a number one priority, they can kiss goodbye to the British tourist industry.
    karma...karma...karma
    The real Rosie.
  16. Glad the racists thugs on here are NOT representative of normal decent Portuguese folk.
    By the way I have taken screen shots of this disgusting place and sent them off to the Portuguese Tourist board, let's see if they think you are so hot Morais.
  17. Damned racist thugs,eh. Third-world sardine munchers - corrupt, grasping image-conscious paedophile protectors, the lot of 'em.
    Up yours Senor, that's what I say.
    Karma, my arse.
  18. I thought i had lost my mind when i rad theRosipops post, i recall her/him being fanatically pro McCanns on the daily express alontg with some other ghastly creatures, then it became apparant she/he is still as nutty s a fruit cake, if she/he or anyone could tell me some valid reasons for being pro McCann I would join them myself, as it is they never touch upon the Dogs evidence, the DNA, the hair, the lies, the setting up of Murat...they just chat shit and abuse those who do discuss the evidence...
  19. The mccanns and all their disgusting supporters are the most despicable creatures I have ever met in my life. I'm Portuguese and I'm very proud of it. We, the portuguese have been insulted in every single way by these bunch of criminals.And why?Well, just because these so called lovely parents are responsible for their daughter's death and don't want to be punished for what they did.They think they are above the law.And they stupidly believe that making the others think Portugal is the worst country someone could ever go to , with the most corrupt police in the world,will help them to evade justice.How silly of them!
    These filthy creatures are so stupid that they can't even see that writting xenophobic posts, full of insults against us will only make things worst for them !
    I have just seen a post written by a so called Rosiepops (Rosa cócó?)and another one by a thing called bob bluebird
    and I just had to smile.That's all you can do, you sad little creatures?Do you think you will stops us?You are only making us stronger.You are soooooo wrong.Your anger just proves that things are not looking good for you. You will all eventually get caught. And we all will be vindicated.Believe me.That willl happen.
    Poor Madeleine, were these monsters the people she had around her when she was alive? No wonder God called her to be near him.She's much better now.
  20. People in England are changing their minds about the McCannsand feel they had some form of involvement in their daughter's disappearance.Also, many people
    (I included) cannot understand why they and the other neglectful tapas parents were not arrested for child neglect and child endangerment.
    As amazing as this may seem, just about every word of my viscious little diatribe has been printed in the British press.
    I recall reading such nonsense in disbelief and anger that the disappearance of a toddler was seen by some as an excuse for a bit of Johnny Foreigner bashing (it's been getting harder to get away with this in recent years - political correctness and all that).
    Our Queen of Karma rosiepops will also be well aware of those slimy, disreputable articles and columns that appeared almost daily at one stage in the Madeleine McCann case.
    My attempt at irony was aimed squarely at rosiepops - at the hypocrisy and double standards of her/his peurile rant.
    As for my peurile rant, well, I won't be attempting irony again any time soon.
    Apologies for any misunderstanding.
  22. Dear Bob, I understood your irony. And I thank you for that ;)
    Unfortunately not all of the commentators here are English or have a knowledge of English - thus the misunderstanding of that anonymous comment.
  23. Hi,
    I am Portuguese I feel disgusted with the Portuguese people that tear the posters. Surely they are only doing that because they are unable to put themselves in the situation of the parents that don’t want to give up on their daughter. You can tell me it was their fault but that wont change anything. Before I think about my nationality, the tourism or anything else I think that first of all I am a HUMAN BEING! No HUMAN BEING should tear posters that are one of the last hope causes for those parents. STOP BEING SELFISH!
    OLA.
    Sou portuguesa e sinto uma grande vergonha nos portugueses que rasgam os posters desta forma. Eu sou mae e sei o que a mae da Maddie sente. Todos cometemos erros como pais e isso nao e razao para agora rasgarmos posters que sao a ultima gota de esperanca para aqueles pais. Quanto ao tourismo, desculpem aas palavras mas que se lixe o tourismo quando a vida ou a explicacao da morte de uma crianca esta em risco. Todos somos humanos antes mesmo de sermos portugueses, ingleses ou seja la o que for. Parem de rasgar os cartazes!
