Gonçalo Amaral’s lawyer “deplores” that someone wants to prohibit the book’s sale

The lawyer for former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral said today that he “deplores” as a citizen that the selling of the book about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was prohibited, which will limit the “freedom of expression” in Portugal.

In statements to Lusa agency, António Cabrita said that he has not been notified about the decision concerning the injunction that forbids the sale of the book “The Truth about the Lie” yet, and he doesn’t wish to take a juridical position about the matter without previously speaking with his client, Gonçalo Amaral.

Nevertheless, he observed that, if the decision’s tenor, as divulged by the media, is confirmed, then it is the “freedom of expression” that may be being limited, because the book about the disappearance of the English child in the Algarve emits an opinion about “certain facts” that took place.

Gonçalo Amaral’s lawyer said it was “strange” that, with the book having been published over a year ago, an injunction has been served only now in order to forbid the book, when the book’s sales have “already attained their peak”.

“As a citizen, this worries me”, António Cabrita commented, further noting that this measure appears at a time when the possibility of translating the book and an eventual interest in selling it in the United Kingdom were being mentioned. “If this is true, then it’s possible that this reaction is related to that”, the lawyer admitted, adding, nevertheless, that he “deplores” what is happening.

Among other statements that are related to the prohibition of the book about the investigation into the English girl’s disappearance, António Cabrita stressed that “it was not Gonçalo Amaral’s pituitary that was sniffing the cadaver odour”.

Contacted by Lusa, Gonçalo Amaral declined any comment, referring all questions to his lawyer.

The Civil Court of Lisbon has forbidden the sale of the book “The Truth about the Lie”, about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, by former Polícia Judiciária inspector Gonçalo Amaral, and has ordered the removal of any copies that are available on the market.

The court’s decision, which was accessed by Lusa today, is the result of an injunction that was filed against the former inspector and the editors, in order to impede the continuation of the divulgation of the book and the video that is based on it, as well as the theories that are presented within them, which point towards an involvement of the parents in the child’s disappearance. The action has been served by Kate and Gerry McCann together with their three children, Madeleine, Sean and Amelie, who are represented by lawyer Isabel Duarte.

The English girl Madeleine McCann disappeared on the 3rd of May 2007, when she was aged three, from the bedroom in an apartment at a resort in Praia da Luz, near Lagos, in the Algarve, where she was on vacation with her parents and her two siblings. The parents were made arguidos in September 2007 but cleared in July 2008 over a lack of evidence.

Since the beginning, the family has maintained the position that Madeleine was abducted, but until this day the authorities have not been able to find out what really happened, and the Public Ministry archived the case, which may be reopened if new data about the disappearance of Madeleine emerges.

Correct it was the British dogs Eddie and Keela . It was also THE INVESTIGATION that came to this conclusion . Kate may remember saying this herself when asked a question about her daughter "If the investigation thinks so" she answered when refusing to help the police in any way by answering the 40 questions.

  3. With a litany of crimes behind them already the McCanns have today added theft to their misdemeanours.

Today's injunction forces copyright for both the book and the film to be passed to the McCanns' lawyer.

Sadly, this case is going to end in further tragedy.

  4. Its been on the main evening uk news
saying how delighted the Maccanns are and the book hampered the search for Madelaine and the portugese judge agreed. Portugal what is wrong with your justice system we expect this in the Uk but not from a country like Portugal.

Mr Amerel is one brave man whom I admire so much, but there is only a certain amount a person can take Mr Amerel you are in my prayers God Bless you.

  5. I don't think it is necessary to panic quite yet. Perhaps you from Portugal could give your valuable opinion as to whether this could be a master plan to finally get the case into the Courts - where it should be!

Shutting the gate after the horse has bolted springs to mind. Mr. Amarals book and video have already been circulated around the world so what is their object. I think maybe there is more to this than meets the eye!

As an aside, how can Clan Mccann insist that Mr. Amarals book etc. are hampering the search for their
daughter when everytime they launch a new campaign they do nothing but brag about the unprecedented response they receive from the public worldwide. Yet more inconsistencies to add to the ever growing list!

  6. I really don't understand their reasoning of "it's hampered the search" - it's the same kind of bollocks as "no comment for operational reasons"

they may feel like they've won the war and curbed freedom of speech but the underground swell is against them and we will never rest until justice is served

  7. Take back some pride Portuguese authorities!

From The Portuguese Marquis of Pombal to Lord Chatam of The British Government (1759)

It is time to end it. If my predecessors were spineless enough to grant you everything you wanted, I will only grant you that which I must. This is my final decision and you will have to get used to it.

  8. The reason they have taken this action is plain and simply because Sr Amaral wishes to publish the book in the UK. If the McCanns had any concerns about the book or the documentary, they would have taken immediate action, 12 mths ago. They are obviously getting very scared, just imagine the backlash from the British public, imagine Kate's mum and dad reading the book, or Gerry's consultant colleagues, and even the parents of the twins' classmates, as many before have said, it's all good publicity, everyone in the UK has now learnt of this book and the documentary, you know the old saying, 'There's no such thing as bad publicity'. WHAT A FANTASTIC OWN GOAL the McChild neglectors have scored. The only thing that hampered the search for their daughter, was themselves and their bunch of suspect friends. God don't you just wish Kate and Gerry were your mummy and daddy?

  9. Dr. Amaral is under a gagg order and cannot speak in his defence, BUT His Excellency Dr. Gerald McCann
hs just spoken before Sky News cameras!!!I feel like breaking all my china!#*«&*, bloody hell!

  10. Contrary to what the McCanns, their pink spokesman, smarmy legal team and the British media might think, Joe Public is not stupid. He will want to see this book for himself and he will find ways and means of doing it. Meanwhile the McCanns will no doubt be looking forward to coming up against Mr. Amaral in court.

  11. Mary good evening, maybe it is the only way to "sniff" them out. No pun intended. I still think the Mcanns are more afraid of fraud charges than what ever happened to madeleine. When too many people become suspicious automatically the fund will become also under suspicion. The Mccanns are still begging for money and so are the Leicester police on their behalf.
There is a poster now with madeleine aged six years, again this is a lie if the Mccanns know madeleine is dead..(of which I have no doubt) this is also fraudulent....Leicester police have received more than one visit from Brown, the first a couple of days after the mccanns returned to England. The tapas are involved again I am sure of this, however it has been reported that any money they were rewarded from the "false accusations" by the British Press has gone straight into the maddie fund, thereby cleaning their hands of fraud if charges which I doubt are ever brought against the Mccanns.

  12. That is an imbecile decision that makes Portugal look bad, and has no efficacity results.

The book was sold in Portugal at around 200 thousand copies, was translated and sold in many other countries, except UK; yet it is available in English language in several sites----

What are the McCANN keeping in their sleaves?

WE KNOW THEY LOVE MONEY, BUT HOW WILL THEY SEEK IT NOW??????

  13. I'm afraid the vast majority of the public are stupid, T4Two...

I spoke with a crime-journalist friend of mine yesterday who astounded me by regurgitating most of the un-truths that the UK press have reported already. I'd have thought he would have done a bit of delving but I think most people are happy to believe in "an abductor" just as most grown ups wish that there was still Father Christmas.

It still completely baffles me as to why it would be so abhorrent to the general public for the McCann's to be involved.

  14. In Brown's Britain, teachers are being taught how to use full stops and commas and the difference between an adjective and a noun - TEACHERS. Journalists are careerist puppets selling their junk to the highest bidder. WE are stupid, T42, very stupid.

  15. Talk to me of politicians, of journalists of government stooges if you must, I will put my faith in the ordinary people. This is not what the Portuguese people understood democracy should be like after decades of dictatorship and as for the British, they may be slow to react but they will not be influenced to turn against their basic beliefs which are an intrinsic part of their democratic history and culture. The rath of public opinion will turn against those who are so arrogant as to tell us what we may not read, what we should think and what we should believe. Who are these McCanns apart from being celebrity bad parents?

  17. IMO the McCanns have now achieved their goal which was to GAG Amaral and NEVER to allow the UK public to read his book or see the video. I have a feeling that now they will back off by saying they havn't got the money in the fund to take him to court. Why else have they been constantly saying the fund will be packing up by the end of the year. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. or are they so greedy they are about to put their heads in a noose!!! Can't Amaral apeal this unfair decision? DO NOT LET THE McCANNS WIN AMARAL.

  18. Hello,

Madeleine was not in her bed the night she disappeared, but in her parents bed, what also happened the nights before. So she was cer-tainly not taken out of her bed, as her parents put forward (and off course Matt Oldfield could not declared that Madeleine was not in her bed, so he declared that he could not see her bed because it was to dark). This is an important fact that appears out of the book of Mr.Amaral, which Kate and Gerry Mccann dont want to be find out.

  19. Could it be that the team McCann purposely delayed taking action over Amarals book and film.
This would allow Amaral to accumalate funds from the sale of these items before the McCanns took action.
Now he has to pay them for any delays in following the courts orders.
