Profits from Gonçalo Amaral’s book apprehended

The Civil Court of Lisbon has ordered the apprehension of all the profits that were obtained through the sale of the book “Maddie, the truth about the lie”, by former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral, following a process that was filed by the parents of the little English girl that disappeared in the Algarve in May 2007.

by Ricardo Marques

According to the court order, the editors that published the book have already been notified that all profits from the cession and sale of the book will be apprehended for the eventual payment of an amount of 1,2 million euro.

The court notifications about this injunction have already been sent to Italy, Holland, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, countries where the book has been translated and published.

Gonçalo Amaral, the inspector who led the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, in 2007, was removed from the case after statements that he made to the media.

The investigation into the disappearance of the 3.year-old English girl, in Praia da Luz, was archived on the 21st of July 2008.

In September, under an order from the Civil Court, the book had already been removed from the shelves.

The book “Maddie, the truth about the lie” was published in July 2008, by editors Guerra & Paz, and in the two following months had 12 editions, of 10 thousand copies each.

  1. How dare they! I hope Sr Amaral has all his money stashed in another country, how can this have any legal standing in other countries. The McCanns are heading for a huge fall, their arrogance will topple them in the end. What i don't understand is how this can happen when they are being countersued.

Gerry you got the Oscar and now be kind and thankful to your Labour Party an the political VIPs in Portugal.

God bless the spirit of Madeleine.
Nothing is more important in this case than peace for this child.

  3. If this is true then it surely indicates that the outcome is already settled? I have never heard of a case were the funds are procured before any wrongdoing has been established. Has there been notifications sent to other country's and why? What juristiction does Portuguese courts have on another country????

  4. É uma vergonha Portugal permitir isto.

This is a travesty of justice, there hasn't been a trial yet but apparently a ruling has already been made. The following quote explains it all: "for the eventual payment of an amount of 1.2 million euros", in other words it is a foregone conclusion. Mr. Amaral you must leave Portugal to obtain justice; you must appeal to a higher court.

Portuguese people must protest what is happening in Portuguese courts, their rights as citizens are being undermined.

  5. In my country nothing surprises me anymore. What a shame! Sadly, if this goes through, the result is that the McCanns will be very well off indeed. What a shame that all this happens at the cost of their child's life. But then, this couple is able of anything.

  6. Glad to hear it, best news in a long time. When's the Jag going back? He can always pawn his ear-ring.

  7. The profits have been frozen to await the outcome of the main action - quite usual. The substantive issues still have to be determined at the trial next year and then the frozen accounts will be awarded to the successful party.

  8. Are the McCanns going to receive the 1.2 million?
If I remeber correctly Mr.Amaral was donating funds from sale of his book to childrens charities.

I have discussed the Madeline case with family, friends and colleagues to find out their opinions. 100 per cent are shocked and amazed that the children were left alone most nights whilst parents went out to dinner. Most believe that the McCann Fund is a charity not a Company. Most do not realise that the McCanns have high profile lawyers working on the case, in fact many comments were "why do they need lawyers to find a missing child, surely there are good monitored organizations who are experienced in this field who work closely with all police agencies throughout the world? Some believe that media cover is a good tool to use to alert everyone into being vigilant in helping to find missing children, but TOO MUCH media may be harmful for a missing child as it could alert abuductors into taking drastic measures if they believe they will be caught.

From the discussion I have come to the conclusion that the messages the McCann Team are giving out are; It is ok to leave your children alone, if a tragedy should happen be sure to put the blame elsewhere, if the police ask awkward questions either refuse to answer or give conflicting answers.

It is ok to obtain funds by any means, leave no opportunity unturned even if it involves discrediting people who are genuine in finding the truth.

Do not involve the police, use expensive private detectives.

Only use media that will take nice photos and ask questions that you agree to answer. Low and Behold any newspaper that might print something to damage your image or credibility.

I do not blame any one for trying to do all they possibly can to find their missing child but somehow this is not the message that seems to comes across to me from how the McCanns have staged their campaign. (MY OPINION)

I have signed the petition and urge everyone who cares to do the same.

A message for the people who work day and night giving their time, effort and energy in trying to make this world a safer place for children
    THANK YOU

  9. I see Amaral using the 'Their rich, I'm poor card'

Good to see common sense prevailing and free speach being protected by resonsibility.

The icing on the cake. Tommorrow we will see thousands of football fans, bot Portuguese and British wearing Madeleine on their shirts at a match being televised all over the world.

Anyone know what happened to the French programme with Amaral??

  10. infamyinfamy, you say that this process is quite usual. The trial is supposedly taking place next year in the summer. If Mr. Amaral wins, who is going to compensate him for all that money being tied up for that length of time. Who is going to compensate him for the lost investment cost?

  11. Can someone, with a bit more IT savvy than I, post the translated version of 'The Truth of The Lie' on WikiLeaks please.

  12. I'm beginning to wonder if this whole idea was to incite the Portuguese fans into an international incident, so the martyrs could say 'see, no wonder we couldn't trust the police in this lawless country'. They're all about good marketing ploys tm G McCann.

  13. Since I have paid for this book myself , and I also do object, that the McCanns will be getting a cent out of me.
I should be the one to decide on what happens to my cash.
