Kate McCann Returns To Praia Da Luz

by Martin Brunt

Kate McCann must have got up at an unearthly hour to ensure her emotional return to Praia da Luz went unnoticed.

We missed her and so did the fishermen who were on the beach long before dawn.

Apparently she and Gerry were there at 5.30 am to wander the deserted seafront and visit the nearby church which became their sanctuary in the weeks after Madeleine's disappearance.

So, they managed to keep the trip private as they intended, but it must have taken some determination.

It also meant they avoided bumping into any of the locals who don't share the sympathy others have towards the couple.

As Kate said in a statement: "For the rest of the day we are planning to catch up with some very good friends."

  2. sounds like Martin doesn't believe they were there at all this morning. For what it's worth I don't believe it either.

  3. They weren't out searching for Madeleine then?

No, so when are they ever going to start turning over the stones?

Or don't they think that is necessary now.

  4. I hear they are at a service just now in the PDL church. I hope the locals give them the welcome that they deserve.

  7. I remember Martin Brunt saying when the Mccanns were made arguidos...'We were all taken in by the Mccanns'..seems like he has gone back to his original thought.

  15. SET THE SNIFFER DOGS ON THEM!

Okay, so I got that off my chest. A dose of rotten eggs would have made for a splendid breakfast :D

  16. Not a funeral @9. This visit is an obligation to those who deserve McCanns gratitude: I think I don't have to say why. An is simultaneously a strong need to return before a painful goodbye. They won't come back to PDL for long time and you won't see them much in court in Lisbon. Wait and see.

  17. I like the way Anorak News concludes its McCann article.

"Madeleine McCann is missing. And we are still watching the parents..."

  18. "For the rest of the day we are planning to catch up with some very good friends". I'm surprised they still have any in Portugal! Robert Murat wouldn't be included I'm sure! After all he got his pieces of silver from Kenned. I'm not saying that he didn't deserve them of course! And I bet the poor priest who originally dealt with the McCanns when Maddie went missing, kept his distance this time!

What a shamless couple. I look forward to the day when that is printed on the front pages instead of the fawning they usually receive.

So much for the PRIVATE visit, with Kate McCann writing earlier today on their own website about their visit and how they'd be spending the day with friends. Why did she need to write anything at all if they wanted privacy? Why tell everyone they would still be there, if they didn't want journalists or photographers hanging around?

Rhetorical questions, folks! No answer needed! lol

  21. Not going to roll their sleeves up then and get stuck in and do a bit of searching?

How can anybody take these people seriously

  22. i guess this is their sad way at clawing back some positive spin on their disastrous trip...
how sad that it is, as usual, ALL ABOUT THEM...

i have never been so sick of the whole fiasco as i am now... will it ever end??? - it's like being caught in a permanent spin wash cycle with cuddle cat

  23. At 5:30AM who would be there to open the church for them?! Rev. Hubbard or Mrs. Hubbard? These are the friends they will be staying with, for sure. I bet that Father Pacheco, he local catholic priest will not be giving the mass today, the article mentions it was not Hubbard either, some other priest did it. Was it a catholic rite mass or an anglican one( the church is used for both, I understand)?
I could never understand how two so self-proclaimed fervorous catholics were more than happy/comfortable in attending Church of England religious services...maybe from some point on they felt very uncomfortable in the presence of Father Pacheco, they couldn't face him, and vice-versa...

  24. surely someone can juxtapose the photos of them on what would have been Madeleine's 4th birthday outside the church looking very happy with tomorrow's ones which I'm guessing will portray the McCann's looking poignantly sad/weary/twatish

their acting stinks as much as cuddle cat did

  25. 5.30 am?
Surely, it was still DARK at 5.30 am. ;)

  26. Madeleine is not in PDL (only in spirit that's why parents feel so closed to her. Remember that may happened a funeral ceremony in PDL). That's the connection and the state of spirit, ... feel closed to, solace... final goodbye. Body fluids were found later on in 2007 because was very hot at that time and after a long trip and hot weather ice become water and the rest with it. This trip is also a way to show gratitude to those who has supported the couple in the hard times August 2007 when they were about to be caught by the police... in fact that's why Golçalo Amaral was moved way from the case. The rest are pin up's.

  27. Poster 26 - yes, that has been bothering me a lot since I heard it. Why on earth were they wandering around the beach in the pitch dark? What is the point in that? And to get into the church that early, I suspect they were given keys. So they are in Praia da Luz, prowling around in the dark to avoid anybody who might be nasty to them, and yet they have announced to the press that today they plan to visit the Ocean Club! It doesn't make any sense!
