Madeleine McCann: Kidnap ring link

by James Murray

A girl who vanished just a few miles from where Madeleine McCann disappeared was sold to child traffickers, a Portuguese court will be told next week.

Joana Cipriano was just eight when she vanished on September 12, 2004, from the village of Figueira, near Portimao in the Algarve.

Her mother Leonor and uncle Joao Cipriano were jailed for 16 years for her murder. But Leonor, who is fighting to overturn her conviction, will put her case to a Portuguese court this week

Her sensational allegations raise the possibility that a child smuggling ring was active in the area and could have also snatched Madeleine from her apartment in Praia da Luz on May 2007.

Leonor’s partner Antonio Silva says Joao Cipriano confessed in May last year that he was solely responsible for Joana’s disappearance because he wanted to sell her to raise money to fund his addiction to hard drugs.

Mr Silva’s statement, seen by the Sunday Express, says : “The police always refused to investigate the many rumours in Figueira that criminals would be tempted to buy the girl. ”

British criminologist and child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas called for Joana’s case to be reopened and for an investigation to see if it was linked to Madeleine’s disappearance.

  2. The McCanns will try and grasp any straw to save them because they know their abduction story is not believable.

Nor can it be, in the face of all the other evidence that points to the death of Madeleine in the apartment, and the involvement of her parents.

Much as the McCanns would like us to believe it, the dogs don't lie.

There is so much evidence pointing to the death, that they have to resort to saying it was planted by the investigators.

They are like a pair of spoilt brats, stamping their feet, because they can't get their own way. They think everyone should give them what they want.

    Please!

  6. Oh what a surprise - "Have your say" is unavailable for this story. And that is what it is - a story!

Story - definition(in this context): a piece of fiction that narrates a chain of related events

  7. Leonor herself confirmed again that she was murdered allegedly by her brother alone. So how can they say it was a paedo ring. Talking about desperate measures.

  8. Others had a rather different slant on what took place.

What has really happened in the 168 days since Madeleine was last seen?

Dispatches sent a team of five of the UK's best-qualified investigators to Praia da Luz. Led by retired Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Stevenson, who headed the Soham investigation into the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, their goal is to review the Portuguese police investigation.

The investigators analyse the key moments in the near six-month investigation. With expertise in forensics, searching, profiling and media management, learned in dozens of UK cases, the team detail how they would have responded to Madeleine's disappearance and gone about finding her. With testimony from observers who witnessed events in the crucial early days, they differentiate between the fact and the wildly speculative media fiction.........................................

JS: Forensic scientist Dave Barclay considers what might have happened to Madeleine.

DB: Having seen the circumstances and the lay-out of the apartment, it looks to me more likely, the priorities are higher, that some harm happened to her within the apartment. No more than that.

    CS: Right ................

  24. I am thinking that Coldwater did have some kind of inside information, because after reading the statements some of the things said did ring a bell that he/she had mentioned before the statements were released.

Like he had been told some of the things or even read them himself.

Also his talking about his dogs.

Might we have had one of the police dog handlers on line. He was trying to say that the LP cops did not believe the McCanns.

Perhaps the ones at the bottom of the chain don't, but there can be no doubt the ones at the top are shielding them, and not even defending the dogs and their impressive work.

The LP should be ashamed of themselves.

  25. So Mark Williams-Thomas, wants the case of Joana's case reopening because he thinks there is a link to her disappearance and Madeleine's disappearance? He is supporting the very people who have provided links to Madeleine's disappearance, the McCanns.

Mark Williams-Thomas, only has to listen to the media interviews the McCanns gave, to know they blatantly lied, about the shutter and the children's sleeping habits, along with other lies they told.

He only has to watch videos of them jogging while locals and holidaymakers helped the police search for Madeleine, to know that their behaviour is not that of parents who have a missing child.

He only has to look at the files, to see the McCanns are more involved in Madeleine's disappearance, than neglect. Especially the part where Kate McCann refused to answer 48 questions, that would have helped the police in their investigation.

If Mark Williams-Thomas, still can't see that the McCanns are more involved in Madeleine's disappearance, than neglect, then he needs to brush up on his criminology skills. Thats if he had any in the first place. He may have been a police officer, but that doesn't make him a criminologist.

Mark Williams-Thomas also needs to find out which side of the fence he is on. He has criticised the McCanns many times since Madeleine's disappearance. He seems to have conveniently forgotten about his appearance on GMTV, shortly after Madeleine's disappearance.

He said he went to PDL to offer his services as a child protection expert, to the McCanns, he said the McCanns refused his help. He also disclosed information about the shutter. He said the McCanns told the police the shutter was jemmied and when it was found to be intact, they admitted leaving the apartment unsecured. He then said the McCanns were asked if Madeleine could have got out of bed and walked through the unsecured door, to look for them. Kate McCann said it was impossible, because once asleep their children never woke up.

The McCanns had told 2 lies in the space of a very short time. The first lie was about the jemmied shutter that wasn't jemmied. The second lie was about the children's sleeping habits. She already knew that Madeleine had woken up the previous evening and along with her brother had cried for her.

Mark Williams-Thomas's criticisms of the McCanns, gave me the impression that he knew the McCanns were guilty of more than neglecting their children. Now he is showing his support for the McCanns and trying to blame others for Madeleine's disappearance. He needs to get out of the child protection profession, because anyone who is genuinely trying to protect children, does not support child neglectors, especially when the neglect has caused their child to disappear.

What is wrong with these people, who on one hand say they have the interest of children at heart, then on the other hand go out of their way to protect the very people that harm these children?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have left a comment on the Daily Wail, but whether it will be printed is another matter. I merely pointed out that as they had every right to travel to Portugal to spin their story, so Senor Amaral has every right to visit the UK. What's good for the goose....

  28. I also think that there is a link between the Maddie and the Joana case. I'm not sure that it is a link that the McCanns will find "helpful"... but it's a link, for what it's worth.
I hope that Mr Williams-Thomas campaigns heavily for British interference in the Joana Cipriano case. If he gets it reopened in order to investigate a link to the Maddie case, chances are the Maddie case is also reopened.
I think that just for this once, I fully support Mr Williams-Thomas.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes there is a link between the two case.

    THEY ARE BOTH DEAD.

Given other parents they would no doubt still be alive.

  30. Yet more desperate smoke and mirrors, so predictable. What has this nonsense got to do with the case of MBM, it is just another distraction. It STARTS BY ASSUMING MADELEINE WAS ABDUCTED, which is NOT PROVEN, and then with no evidence whatsoever tries to link her disappearence to the Cipriano case. IT HAPPENED IN 2004!!! There is no comparison with the Madeleine case, even the age is different, and the location was miles away I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hello Anonymous (29) first and foremost, would you not rather see Madeleine's case reopened, before Joana's?

There is no proof Madeleine and Joana's disappearances are linked, but there is proof Madeleine's parents are involved in her disappearance, not just by neglect, but by their strange behaviour and the lies they have told to save their own skins. Not forgetting the 48 questions Madeleine's mother refused to answer, even though she knew that by refusing to answer the questions, she was hindering the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.

Mark Williams-Thomas, calls himself a criminologist, so why is he not helping the Portuguese police to solve the crime the McCanns committed. Rather than getting involved with another case, that to all intent and purpose has been solved.

I don't know if there has been a miscarriage of justice in Joana's case, but what I do know is there has certainly been a miscarriage of justice where Madeleine is concerned. Who are to blame? the ones who have helped her parents evade prosecution.

You say you support Mark Williams-Thomas and you are entitled to. I cannot support anyone, who supports child neglectors, especially when their neglect has caused the disappearance of their child.

Mark Williams-Thomas, calls himself a child protection expert. He is not protecting children, when he is protecting the very people who are harming them by neglect or any other means.

Lets not forget the times Madeleine and her siblings were often heard crying, in that darkened, unlocked apartment. These toddlers must have been petrified as they cried for their parents. Of course their parents couldn't hear their pitiful cries, because they were wining and dining with their mates.

I wonder why the McCanns preferred the company of their friends, to the health and safety of their 3 toddlers?

Its one of the questions, Sean and Amalie will ask the McCanns, when they are older.

Maybe one of the reasons the McCanns preferred the company of their friends, rather than concern themselves with the health and safety of their children was because, as Kate puts it

they were 'SO INTO EACH OTHER'!!!

What the hell does that mean???

  37. Aspected... Every time the Mccann's are in troubles with justice their Editor spin friends immediately start a campaign to discredit Portuguese justice.
From this article we can know how reliable is that newspaper. If they investigate every news with same accuracy then we can classify that paper as RUBBISH.

Perhaps they know that Leonor( Or more Accurate Aragao, Or more accurate GERRY) intentions to re-open the case and been retrialed, was refused by the judges and one of the Judges is Souto Moura, the last Attorney General which must know very well the investigation and the evidences: Joana is dead and her body was grinded together with an old car, in Spain. 52. Raymon Hewlett (though disgusting paedophile that he is), is a good reason why the McCanns should be stopped on their witch hunt using their so called private police force.

They could end up driving somebody to commit suicide, or somebody could even end up getting bumped off, with all the bad publicity generated against the person.

The McCanns are going to the media before anything is proved against anybody. They are dangerous people are the McCanns, with no regard to the feelings, or safety, of other people.

And, anybody could be targeted. It is a disgrace. They are not the police, and how they are getting away with this is crazy.

  54. The chances of Madeleine having been abducted are virtually zero - her parents have never told all - their silence speaks volumes.

Williams Thomas is a fool, his arguments lack coherent logic and he doesnt ask pertinant questions of the McCanns.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Did Mr McCann give an explanation that the finding of DNA and the smell of death in their hire car was due to dirty nappies and rotting meat that he had taken to the local dump, was the dump ever checked out?

Also I am sure that I have read somewhere that the twins were sleeping in cots on matresses with no sheets or blankets, if this is a fact does it not seem strange to put little ones to bed without a source of comfort or warmth. Just my thoughts maybe if the twins were given some sleeping sedative without any monitoring suffocation from bed clothes would not pose a risk.

Lastly what is a known fact, and no matter how much The McCann Team try to spin their responsible parenting, they chose to leave their children alone most nights of their holiday. They state regular checks were made.
In all honesty how many parents with small children know that a child sleeping can suddenly wake with a nightmare, a stomache ache, sickness. Whatever the time scale of the checks it does not compete with parents at home who can hear if any of their children wake distressed!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Since when a British criminologist should be called to re-open a case in another country? Ludicrous ....
It is that the next Aragao Step to persuade the judges which refused already his intentions? There is the Prove- Maddie and Joana are linked, not by a paedoplhile ring but by a Spin Machine headed by the Mccann's.
WHO IS PAYING ARAGAO HONORARYS IN JOANA CASE? IN WHICH OTHER CASES, ARAGAO WORKS AS A LAWYER? HOW THIS GUY SURVIVE IN PORTUGAL? HE LOOKS LIKE A MEMBER OF DRUGS MAFIA- NO JOBS TO JUSTIFY HIS INCOMES.
