Maddie Case : Six suspects are in the Algarve

  • British authorities say that six suspects of Maddie's disappearance are in the Algarve
  • Proceedings requested to Portugal will focus on these individuals, of English and Portuguese nationalities, who had already been investigated
  • Police is analyzing the phone records of the suspects
by Rui Pando Gomes/Ana Palma

Of the 41 suspects that the British authorities believe to have an interest towards clarifying the Maddie case, six are in the Algarve. The CM found out, that most of the proceedings, requested by the English police to the Portuguese authorities within the scope of the new investigation opened in England over Madeleine's disappearance, will focus on these individuals.

CM learned the suspects are of English and Portuguese nationalities and were in the vicinity of Praia da Luz, in Lagos, at the time of the disappearance, in May 3, 2007.

They had already been investigated by the Judiciary Police (PJ), however the British police guarantees that they have new data, following the analyses of several phone records. It will be the cross-examination of that data that the investigation, which began with the pressure of the prime minister David Cameron [see on the side], is now focusing, leading to requests of judicial cooperation sent to several European countries, among them Portugal.

In order to fulfill the request, a team of six elements from the Judiciary Police directorship of the Southern area of Portugal was deployed, to carry out all the steps asked by the British police based on Portuguese law. The National PJ Director, Almeida Rodrigues, confirmed yesterday that the Portuguese authorities received a rogatory letter from the English authorities which is "being applied in accordance to the usual process". He also stated that the existing PJ team in Porto, headed by the Superior PJ Coordinator Helena Monteiro, reviewing the process will "continue to do their job" since "the situations of children who disappear are never truly closed while it is not determined what has happened".

The Attorney General, Joana Marques Vidal, also confirmed yesterday that "there is a process in England" and that it was asked to Portugal, within the scope of international judicial cooperation, "to carry out some proceedings".

The Portuguese team will support the British unit in charge of 'Operation Grange', from the Metropolitan Police, who are reviewing all the leads.

On the Side
Praia da Luz wants to forget the Maddie Case
Praia da Luz, in Lagos, is where the tourist resort of the Ocean Club is, where the McCanns were staying at the time when Madeleine disappeared - the people of Luz want to "forget" about the case that has placed the locality in the eyes of the world for the "worst reasons". In their opinion, the case has affected adversely local tourism. "We have been severely damaged" guarantee the population.

Pressure from David Cameron opened inquest
PJ inspectors will support the British unit in charge of 'Operation Grange', an inquest initiated following the direct intervention of the British Prime Minister, David Cameron. "It's a dedicated team. We have surpassed the first series of judicial obstacles, and the investigation is moving forward", affirmed Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, from the metropolitan police, who assures that there is a good cooperation between both police forces.

McCann couple demands 1,2 million euros for damages from former inspector
The announcement of the relaunching of the investigation to the Maddie case happened at a time when the trial against the former Judiciary Police inspector Gonçalo Amaral, accused of defamation by the McCanns, is taking place in the Pálacio de Justiça, in Lisbon. In this civil action the couple are demanding 1,2 million euros. In the book 'The Truth of the Lie", Amaral, who led the investigation to Maddie's disappearance, defends the thesis of the concealment of the cadaver by her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.

Window was open
Madeleine McCann disappeared on May 3, 2007 from an apartment in a tourist resort. She had been left in the bedroom with her siblings, the 2 year old twins, Sean and Amelie, while the parents went out to have dinner in a restaurant of the resort. About 22h Kate McCann found Madeleine's bed empty and the shutters up. In the first official statement made by Guilhermino Encarnação, on May 5, the PJ revealed that there were suspicions of a crime of abduction and about the existence of a sketch of an eventual suspect.

Details
Parents arguidos
Kate and Gerry McCann were constituted as arguidos in September 2007. The process was archived due to lack of evidence in July 2008.

Reopening
The process can only be reopened by the Attorney General's Office if there are new and credible evidence regarding Madeleine's disappearance.

Murat a suspect
Robert Murat, a neighbor of the Ocean Club, who helped the searches to find Maddie, aroused suspicions, the PJ searched his property and nothing was found.

Parents defend abduction
The couple has always defended the thesis of abduction of their 3 year old daughter. In 2011 they wrote to David Cameron affirming that not enough was being done to find her.

Box
Madeleine sightings
Since the disappearance of the child the authorities have registered numerous sightings of the child, in opposite places of the planet.

Family thinks she is alive
The McCann family still believes the child is alive. That was stated again last Wednesday by the aunt of the child, Gerry's sister, Patricia Cameron.

Site: renewed image
The McCann couple shows in their site age progressed images of their daughter, who would be now 9 [sic, 10] years old.

England: petition
In England, about 17 thousand people signed a petition for the Social Services so they would investigate why the McCanns had left alone their children.

Mediums: leads followed
The police even followed leads supplied by mediums, who guaranteed that Maddie was dead and pointed to the location of the cadaver.

Maddie Case: Does it make sense to carry on with the investigation?

YES
No one can be absolutely at peace until it is established and made public what really happened to Madeleine McCann. The investigation should never have been closed and it should never have given in to political pressure.
Sérgio A. Vitorino, chief sub-editor

NO
There will be very few cases in Portugal who have had from the police authorities an investigation as thorough and exhaustive as this one. The truth is that, here as abroad, there are mysteries that neither time can set apart. The case of the small child Maddie is one of them.

  1. This 'new investigation' involving Scotland Yard in my view has one purpose and one purpose only, that of pinning blame onto the shoulders of another PREFERABLY A PORTUGUESE.
I read recently that the purpose of the investigation of 2013 is to "find out out what happened on that night" -- so presumably even Scotland Yard does not feel confident of finding Madeleine alive which I thought was the purpose of this investigation.
This is nothing but an exercise aimed at shifting the blame away from the McCanns, preferably, ideally on to the Portuguese.

  2. This so reminds me of the Shrien Dewani case, where you go to another country to get rid of your problems, not bearing in mind, that the cops of these particular Countries namely South African and Portugual are not THAT STUPID as the McCanns and Dewani would like to think !

  3. Henrique Machado witness report is up, read in full at http://miscarriageofjustice.co/index.php?topic=2519.0

McCann family lawyer, Isabel Duarte, is the first to question the witness.

ID asks the witness whether he knows if Eduardo Dâmaso had contacts with Gonçalo Amaral.
HM argues that the journalists' sources are protected.

    The Judge overrules the question.

ID – Do you know that Mr Amaral was dismissed from the case?

Dr Santos de Oliveira, GA's lawyer, protests and the Judge overrules.

ID – Do you know why he was dismissed?

    The Judge again overrules.

ID insists her question about what led to the dismissal is important, but the Judge overrules.
SO starts protesting and ID raises her voice.

The Judge overrules SO, but ID interrupts the Judge saying that it was GA who made affirmations...
The Judge interrupts reminding that she is the one who directs the session, she asks ID to please not interrupt her.
    (...)
The Judge asks whether this principle (respect of what is said) applies to the entire interview.
HM says that with so much time passing he can't answer. He says they were careful to keep a certain distance.

VC quotes a sentence on condensation and asks whether it was given journalistic treatment.
HM says that things were said that weren't published, but what is published attributed to GA is accurate. He says that it sometimes happens that a 40-minute speech has to be shortened, but he doesn't cut it in the middle of a sentence. The interviewee might have said things that the journalist considers not relevant and therefore doesn't publish.

The Judge says the witness may go.

    Evidence ends.

ID dictates to the Clerk of the Court the proceedings concerning Mrs Healy. She states that, after the Court session was adjourned for reasons independent of the Judge's will, she had given up calling this witness. However she then thought the witness had important things to tell, but she forgot to reapply for this witness to be called. She says she asked the witness to return from the UK hoping that the Court would allow her to testify.

GP (Guerra&Paz's lawyer) dictates her position, the rules have to be respected.

SO (GA's lawyer) dictates that it seems the witness wasn't so important or hadn't significant evidence to report since her colleague opted first to give her up. He observes that it is not a case where, in the course of the trial, an unexpected witness pops up with crucial facts to reveal.

The Judge remarks that on the 24th of September 2013, Dra Duarte declared that she relinquished all additional witnesses except for Mrs Cameron. She says it's possible to forfeit a witness at any time, but the Court may judge differently and notify the witness if reasons exist to presume that witness has knowledge of important facts for a forthright discussion of the available evidence.

She adds that the production of testimony evidence up until now does not lead the Court to believe that the witness Susan Healy's knowledge is relevant to the discussion about the case considering her relationship with Kate McCann and the fact that lawyer for the plaintiffs had officially given her up. She therefore doesn't authorize the witness to take the stand.

  5. What about the over £5 million - ripped off the UK taxpayers - being wasted in leads that "had already been investigated by the Judiciary Police"?

Are we to believe Mobile network operators have kept the data records of their clients for 6 years? How many terabytes are needed for that? Aren't there privacy laws against Operators keeping such data in Europe for more than a X period of time?

How can then SY guarantee "that they have new data, following the analyses of several phone records"?

Or are we to believe that SY somehow was able to get the data the PJ wasn't allowed due to the judge Pedro Frias who denied access it.

Actually, are we also to believe that SY turned to page 3000 and something of the PJ investigation process and found out, just now, coincidentally "at a time when the trial against the former Judiciary Police inspector Gonçalo Amaral, accused of defamation by the McCanns, is taking place in the Pálacio de Justiça, in Lisbon" that there were data records that needed urgently to be investigated more thoroughly? Really!?

    -----

«Public Ministry requested to the criminal investigating judge [Pedro Frias], that besides the traffic data and billing details of the mobile phones used by the group of nine English persons in determined days, the telephone operators were as well asked for the contents of short messages (SMS) sent and exchanged by those people during the 'hottest' days (...) the judge Pedro Frias ultimately denied access to the text messages, considering that in practice that would allow telephone interceptions with a retroactive effect to a date when there was no judicial authorisation. The decision was upheld by the appellate judges of the Court of Appeal in Évora, thus the knowledge of the contents of such informations was barred, which could have revealed important clues for the investigation.» http://joana-morais.blogspot.com/2009/05/maddie-case-archived-why.html

Is SY going to look into the Tapas 9 records too? Or are those off-limits?

  6. « (...) But Redwood’s actions demonstrate there is no urgency in interviewing of witnesses, and that, I believe, is because he has no genuine belief that Madeleine is alive. How can he have when he is working at snail’s pace?
And the McCanns it would appear are in no hurry either unlike when the Portuguese Police were investigating - they complained constantly. Yet the Met have been handed the files on a plate, the work basically done for them...and the McCanns are happy to go along with it...What does that tell us?
Let us call a spade a spade, how can Redwood possibly have this belief that Madeleine is alive if he has read the police files? But that won’t stop him, and hasn’t stopped him making nonsense statements to the press over past two years.
Bear in mind it was the Portuguese who investigated, who did the leg work, compiled these police files, and in much lesser time under much more pressing and stressful conditions, and yet the Metropolitan Police have taken 2 years 6 months and the only thing they can come up with is to check the phone numbers of people who have nothing whatsoever to do with this case. And realistically - that is never going to happen!

The Metropolitan police tell us of the vast amount of information contained within the file. They do so to justify the length of time they are taking – which serves to prove that the Portuguese Police investigation was extensive, and thorough!
The fact the McCanns don’t like the conclusion reached... That's another story!
Redwood was quick to tell us the McCanns and their companions, he does not consider as suspects – Seems that, unlike the other witnesses (loud laughter) they were fast-tracked to innocent status!
Or rather non-suspect status, as Redwood cannot deem them innocent, only a Court of Law will do for that one! Seems they had to be fast-tracked.

There was a libel trial soon to come one that if justice is served, they could not possibly win. One they tried to get out of after years of accusing the now retired Portuguese Police officer of the most outrageous actions. But we will get back to that in a moment.

The next stage of Redwoods instruction - to paint what is black, white -was the appearance of the 'tainted ones' who had become more pink as the years passed - on Crimewatch!

Some may think this Crimewatch appeal is all for Madeleine!

    Think again!

This is all for Kate and Gerry McCann to save their sorry asses, and to detract also at this point in time, from the Truth of the Lie, Dr Goncalo Amaral’s book!
Remember, Redwood said months back that his interviews would clash if not with the actual libel trial dates, but with matters concerning the libel issue – The timing of his latest, and the media frenzy was planned, it is no coincidence.
Not forgetting the Portuguese (?) journalist who spoke to Gerry McCann outside the Court in Lisbon, who asked McCann his thoughts on what was ‘going to happen in the coming…next few days’
Did this guy somehow know what was about to happen - the announcement of their appearance on Crimewatch?
And McCann he knew that the guy was not talking about the next few days of the libel trial as in reply he refers him to the Metropolitan Police investigation.
And if anyone has any doubt over this ‘McCann make-over’
Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner, Mark Rowley: –

““In view of the history of this case and how the McCanns were presented originally this is the first time they will have sat alongside police officers.

From their perspective it is quite significant.” (...)

    ReplyDelete
  7. (...) Significant for the McCanns because it would show them working with the police!
(as opposed to working with the pretendy cops those they hired at huge cost to the Fund?) No of course he is not referring to the pretendy private detectives, the criminals the McCanns employed. He is referring to the Portuguese Police!

Does Rowley not realise how shocking his statement - that this is the FIRST time that the McCanns have worked with police, and not against? Indeed Rowley!

And when did it become the duty of Scotland Yard to take on Clarence Mitchell’s role, and get involved in presenting to the public ‘the new look’ McCanns?
When did it become their responsibility to portray the McCanns as now 'working with' the police?' To let the public see this?
The public expect of any parents whose child has disappeared under the most mysterious of circumstances as Madeleine did, to fully co-operate with police authorities, IN THE COUNTRY FROM WHERE THE CHILD VANISHED!
What exactly is it the McCanns want now - A Gold Star for effort?

This investigation (The Mets) is by their own admission not nearly at completion stages. Anything could turn up – information which shows the McCanns and their companions to be involved, or not as the case may be.
But at this moment in time the Met - don't have any suspects, any evidence of an abduction having taken place.
The Metropolitan Police, should absolutely not be 'presenting' the McCanns to the public in any way at all, neither for better or worse.
They should not be attempting to influence public opinion in any way with regards the public perception of this case.

Unless of course Andy Redwood has absolute proof that they were not involved in any way in their daughter’s disappearance, and can demonstrate this.
Unless he can explain fully the lies contained within the police witness statements given by the group who holidayed with McCanns and how this matter has been resolved.
Unless he can explain this and so much more!

More importantly he is working from the police files -

Unless he can explain why and where exactly within the police files, he parts company with the findings of the Portuguese Investigation? (...) »

As a result, the TV special will be aired on British, German and Dutch television.

It will feature an interview with the McCanns, while highlighting new leads uncovered by police.
The programme will also feature a reconstruction of events in the Portuguese resort on the night Madeleine disappeared.

However, Kate and Gerry have banned the re-enactment of their daughter’s disappearance from taking place in Portugal through fear of angering the country’s police.

Instead they have allowed filming to go ahead in neighbouring Spain, with actors playing the roles of the anguished couple.

A three-year-old child actress, bearing a striking similarity to their daughter, will double as Madeleine.
Crimewatch editor Joe Mather said: ‘We are very hopeful this major reconstruction, along with the substantial new lines of enquiry, will prompt viewers with vital information to get in touch with officers in the studio.’

New Madeleine McCann sensation: Witness tells barrister he saw girl ALIVE just weeks ago
    6 Oct 2013 00:00

    [Snipped]

In a sensational development, he said he was stunned when the man confessed he had met the girl on a Mediterranean island

A shaken barrister has told police how a man boasted to him that he had seen missing Madeleine McCann just weeks ago.

In a sensational development the witness said he was stunned when the man confessed he had met the girl on a Mediterranean island.

The conversation took place at a party and breaking down in tears, the lawyer, who we are not naming, said: “I can’t tell you exactly why I believe what I was being told. It was just a gut feeling.”

He said he had no option but to tell the police because of the level of detail the man gave when talking about his disturbing encounter.

The witness added: “I knew that by reporting it, it would compromise me in all sorts of ways. But it was something that I couldn’t ignore. If I hadn’t said anything I couldn’t have lived with myself.”

He said he was convinced the confession was genuine, despite many other people coming forward with unconfirmed sightings and false leads since she disappeared in Portugal, aged three on May 3, 2007.

When asked exactly what it was about the description he was given that forced him to act, the lawyer said: “I have told the police everything that I was told about her.

“They know what that was and that is why they have acted. I was able to be a bit more specific than just the island but I haven’t been able to tell them exactly where the man said she was. I am now terrified that she has been moved elsewhere.”

  10. Six only? That should be quick! Unless The Oracle wishes to leave the "revelations" for November - just before judge Melo e Castro delivers her verdict.

I understand these "six suspects" had already been processed by the PJ (Amaral's team?) SY however, wishes to process them themselves - what for?

To show the PJ how an investigation should be conducted?

To show judge Melo e Castro what an incompetent detective Amaral was?

To reveal the world, if it were not for the PJ incompetence, the culprit would have been caught within 24 hours (maxim)? You wish...

NOW... because of Amaral and the PJ and in spite of SY good offices, everybody has to wait until Madeleine is eighteen years old, runs out of the grange and shouts: "Heeeeeelp!
    I am Madeleine! remember?"

    Of course we do darling!

New Madeleine McCann sensation: Witness tells barrister he saw girl ALIVE just weeks ago
6 Oct 2013 00:00 By Simon Wright, Dominic Herbert

The confession was made at a party in the North West of England in August and the lawyer gave a full statement to his local force, Greater Manchester Police, the following day.

Officers are taking the information seriously and are set to prepare a file for Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange team, leading the hunt.

According to a source, the informant is being treated as a credible witness because of his profession as a barrister and a pillar of the community.

He has been in contact with detectives within the last few days as they act on his crucial statement.

Last night a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the force was unable to comment on the development.

Our revelation comes as parents Kate and Gerry revealed their hope their daughter would be found thanks to new evidence uncovered by a separate police probe.

The couple will appear live on BBC’s Crimewatch on October 14 to plead for information about their daughter’s abduction. (bla, bla, bla)

  12. I would like to consider some "suspects" when all this charade is over - I have never in my life seen such lies as this case is surrounded with....it really does beggar belief.

For a moment I want to ponder this has a thought - we know all the rubbish been churned out are lies - anyone that's only half familiar with the case can see what utter rubbish is been told and intentionally - but that's what I want to ponder ......when crimes are committed and clear intentional lies have been told to avoid the truth ...that makes whoever are responsible for them an accessory to the crime ....does it not ?

Maybe somebody more familiar with law can elaborate on that - I know periodically we have people who post here, that have such knowledge... though I must admit they do not seem to be around so often now.

How can such people be held to account especially when they are at the heart of the institutions that should be defending Law and Order with the objective of accomplishing Truth and Justice ?

What would the truth mean to such institutions that we are supposed to trust ? that make up the pillar stones of a country.

It really is worth thinking about......what has gone on here cannot be undone and when the truth prevails the only criminal rings that will have been smashed are the corrupt ones running the corridors of .power within a country/s.

what would that mean in real terms?

The whole case has taken on a different dimension now ! where is this going to all end up its a scary thought.

Then after all the celebration pictures, interviews and money making spin offs are completed - everything will be shut down has an happy ever after !

The child and family will of course begin a new life to heal the lost time and psychological damage caused - and restraints put in place to prevent any further discussion and questions ever been raised which could harm the recovery.

does anyone else see this coming ?

  15. As the British police guarantee that they have new data, why oh why don't the Portuguese Police re-open the case. British newspapers are portraying the McCann's as victims of an incompetent Portuguese police force and justice system. Where is the Portuguese response to these lies, where is the Portuguese pride, its time for Portugal to stand up and be counted, there is some thing not right in Portugal that allows this travesty to continue.

Perhaps because they are as sure as dogs the child is dead.

They know SY investigation lies in the realm of phantasy. The Portuguese do not have the know-how NOR the decency for this kind of publicity stunts.

Let the British spend their money. Nothing will come out of it nor even Madeleine's bones, I am afraid. Ashes to ashes.

Anyway, in case you missed the point, this is all about Amaral's former PJ colleagues being called as witnesses in the "defamation" proceedings in course. The idea is to denigrate them.

They hope the judge will hear about SY and be impressed enough to hand out another £1 million in compensation to the McCanns, but from what I have heard from this judge, I don't think she will. I am waiting to see...

  22. This case is completely bonkers. We all know it. Everyone who has seriously considered it over time says the same. What the hell is it really about? Nations do not channel vast amounts of money to do nothing very much, especially in times when money is short.

The UK press would have us believe the MET have been doing 'investigations' in Portugal, but of course they haven't: they are not permitted to do so in someone else's country. There are 6 Portuguese officers commissioned to do that and allow the Met to watch and to listen in, but I think that is all still in the pipeline.

The case remains shelved, and no wonder. However the MET seem to think it is nearly solved! Huh?

Many of us have been screaming at the MET to go back to the beginning, to the night it all happened, and establish a proper time line, and see who was the last to see Madeleine, both from within the family and outside it. We complained that phone records were not being allowed into the case. Now, instead of making the dragnet ever wider and wider, and encouraging 'the search' - a dumb idea which suggests lookee likee 'sightings' have any value at all instead of being totally subjective and worthless...the Met say they ARE doing a reconstruction with the McCanns, and being allowed to look at phone records... Huh? If these two things were to be done correctly they might provide GENUINE evidence...of abduction, of death in the apartment, or of any of the other theories, but does anyone think it will be?

This case is completely crazy! Gerry McCann, now an elder statesman and a chief Hacked Off spokesperson, has just been reverentially interviewed by a senior Sky commentator about something or other.

Whitewash? Genuine investgation? What the hell is going on? My mind just can't keep up with it.
