Search for Maddie still without conclusions

English child disappeared nine years ago.

by Rui Pando Gomes

Without conclusions. These are the words that define the investigations done to understand what happened to Madeleine McCann, the English child who disappeared from the bedroom where she slept, nine years ago, in Praia da Luz, Lagos. Maddie was three when she disappeared and if she is alive she will be 13 years old on May 12. There are two ongoing investigations: one in Portugal the other in England.

In our country, the Public Ministry is re-analysing information collected in the past. In England, Scotland Yard is following the lead of a botched burglary to apartment 5A, where the child was sleeping with her twin siblings. According to the English police thesis, the robbers panicked and abducted the child. Within the framework of judicial cooperation between the two countries, CM found out, is pending the delivery of an expert information requested by the British in the sixth letter rogatory sent to Portugal.

The English did not request further support to the Portuguese authorities and have already admitted that their investigation could be drawing to an end. CM knows that the two investigations have not reached any concrete conclusion.

Without answers, the parents of Madeleine McCann assured this Tuesday, nine years after the disappearance, in a statement published in the Find Madeleine site, that they still have "hope" to find the daughter alive and "in safety". Kate and Gerry guarantee that the investigation will continue until there are concrete answers.

  1. It is only the McCanns' spin doctor promoting this burglary nonsense, why are the Portuguese press responding as though it came from Scotland Yard?

    1. Perhaps, Carla (Jenny), the journalists and others have sources and/or know some confidential information that allows them to write/talk about the "burglary nonsense"?

    3. For the sake of clarity what exactly is conspiratorial here? The above translation, the bellow one? Perhaps another translation? My reply to you? Maybe my pragmatic views concerning the ongoing investigations? Or are you using derogative adjectivations just because you hold a different opinion to my own? Should I expect you then to call me a 'troll' or worse like the English tabloids do to all of us for having a different opinion, for seeing another 'truth'?

  3. So you deleted my last reply. Who is this Carla you keep accusing me of being? And why are you believing Clarence Mitchell, of all people?

    1. Yes I did delete it, there was no need to be offensive.

Something that you said had similitudes with a Carla, in any case I suppose that's not your real name, so Carla, Jenny, whatever. Just a jest, not to be taken seriously. If that's your real name, then mea culpa.

I'm not believing in Mitchell at all, I never did. What I did (and am doing) are the translations of articles/debates with people, who have considerably more inside knowledge than you or I have. They mention the three burglars nonsensical story because, in all likelihood, they had access to that information from a credible source that obviously is not Clarence Mitchell. Potentially from some other type of source.

If you recall, the 3 burglars scenario was alleged to be on the last letter rogatory and was presented as being the English thesis, and that was the last thesis that we (general public) heard/read about. On the other hand there is also the possibility the English investigation went back to one of their other previous thesis, we (public) don't know, however that somehow seems less likely.

    2. Please advise what it was I said that was offensive as I can't think of anything whatsoever that can be construed as such.

    3. Let's move forward, I've the impression we started on the wrong foot, both of us. We may have different opinions, we just have to wait and see if any of us is right with our personal assumptions, deductions, expectations, etc or completely wrong. Maybe there's even a between. Things are not black and white in this case, they never were. All the best, hope you keep on commenting.

  4. Greetings Joana! Now you got me thinking ...

Clarence Mitchell may (or may not) be behind these media synchronicities. Perhaps these, are just a spontaneous manifestation of the British Collective Unconscious at work ...

Whatever the quantitative/qualitative dynamics of the phenomena, these coincidences or speculations - many of which do originate from Scotland Yard working ex-cathedra as "reputation managers" under strict orders from David Cameron (Clarence Mitchell's mentor) - are, nothing but attempts to influence public opinion in general - and perhaps the Portuguese justice system in particular - if we ignore Strasbourg for the time being...

If we exclude "Mickey Mouse" Mitchell from the equation, then we have to bring in Ideology and Cultural Hegemony to explain it all.

Ideology (hegemony being just another aspect of it) as Michel Foucault aptly pointed out, floats in the Ether like an episteme - and limits or defines what at a given time may be perceived as real or the truth (or words to that effect). Subservience is but one aspect of it ...

"Mickey Mouse" - acting as the the McCanns' spokesperson and reputation manager - may well be behind it all or at least some of it - of that I have absolutely no doubt. Don't ask me how.

It is important to remember that in post-modern societies "the simulacrum is never that which conceals the truth! It is the truth which conceals that there is none. The simulacrum is true". (quote)

"Simulation, Baudrillard claims, is the current stage of the simulacrum: all is composed of references with no referents, a hyperreality." (quote)

"It is dangerous ever to give credence to any news that comes via the trashy British press".

What makes you so sure this information did not come - at least in part - from the "horse's mouth"? Just asking ...

Please note that "Correio da Manhã" may be a "trashy" newspaper but it is not British - as you assume.

Rui Gomes article merely states that:

"(It) is pending the delivery of an expert information requested by the British in the sixth letter rogatory sent to Portugal..."

"The English did not request further support to the Portuguese authorities and have already admitted that their investigation could be drawing to an end."

"The Independent" (not exactly a "trashy" newspaper) reported the same news way back when (January 2014):

"The CPS sent the international letter of request last week, BBC News reported. The last time it did so was in July, when British police said they were investigating 38 “persons of interest” and that a review had been upgraded into a formal investigation."

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/madeleine-mccann-arrests-imminent-after-british-police-request-assistance-from-portuguese-9056176.html

Recently, a British tabloid correctly reported on the VIP couple civil court loss:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/madeleine-mccanns-parents-seething-police-7790094

So one has to be careful with "one-fits-all" rhetorical, bombastic statements.

Sometimes there is a kernel of truth in the "trashy" media reports OR even when there is not, there is no reason these should not be evaluated "for the record".

Indeed it is because they have been evaluated by independent social media that patterns have emerged ...

    ; ) No animosity implied ...

  13. With regard to the article in the British press today (12th May) that Leveson documents to do with GM have been closed for 100 years, I was wondering if they may be documents relating to forums and posters who have been named in the "deadly" dossier put together by "friends" of the McCanns. May be these documents were a forerunner to the final version of the dossier and the McCanns wanted to show Leveson how "upset" they were by so many people not believing their fairy story of how Madeleine came to "disappear".

"If you see exhibits and evidence submitted by others, under that section : Subseries within LEV 2 Module 1 - are also closed for 100 years http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/b213300e4c46466eb9b16acdb4af9ca9 If you search for "Gerald McCann" in "records" at the National Archives site, you'll find 'W/S of Gerald Patrick McCann' (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/382546ba5b1f4919a304ac3f4095bd91) that is the Written Submission by GM, which appears in the site with a reference "LEV 2/72D/Z", further description states the document is closed or retained for the period of 100 years, yet if you search google for that written submission, using the keywords "LEV 2/72D/Z - W/S of Gerald Patrick McCann" the first result will lead you to that same submission link, in PDF form, which you can still download (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3AYLFVdrz813AJ%3Awww.levesoninquiry.org.uk%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2011%2F11%2FWitness-Statement-of-Gerald-Patrick-McCann.pdf%20&cd=1&hl=pt-PT&ct=clnk&gl=pt) The whole site 'www. levesoninquiry. org. uk/" has been archived by the National Archives, Gerald and Kate McCann written statements and oral evidence (video) can be found here http://www.mccannfiles.com/id385.html"

And then, still on the same facebook thread:

"Just adding to the above, the documentation submitted by Gerry to support his Written Submission, referenced as "Exhibit GM1, GM2 and GM3 to W/S of Gerald McCann" (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=gerald%20mccann) were never publicly available at the original site, I can only imagine those documents were submitted to substantiate what he stated in the written form. Those documents can be a number of things, from press cuts to something of a more legal nature, like using the injunction to GA's book, who knows? They abusively used the injunction which had only validity for those targeted in it (GA and other defendants) and in Portugal for a myriad situations, like attempting to close Pamalam's sites or remove books from Amazon site (http://joana-morais.blogspot.pt/2010/01/kate-and-gerry-mccann-threaten-to-sue.html), in order to give credence to their claims."

That should teach the tragic VIP couple not to use public donations to pay their mortgage and then play expensive legal games to repress freedom of opinion in Portugal and elsewhere, allegedly for the sake of PR and reputation management.

In other words, to try and come clean for what was, essentially, a fatal mistake not to say (according to Textusa) a very sordid swinging affair but - speculation aside - the question remains:

Did they or did they not, leave their children alone at the mercy of circumstances?

This is what the Portuguese Supreme Court should be asking them:

"DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN ALONE?
      YOU DID?
SO WHAT DO YOU WANT NOW?
US TO COMPENSATE YOU FOR THE IMPACT FREEDOM OF OPINION HAD ON YOUR REPUTATION?

  19. “Whether the case is civil or criminal, the key to the courthouse door is the dollar bill.”

It's not just Portugal and Gonçalo Amaral that are being legally bullied into subservience! The Americans are having the same problem with this postmodern trend of "money-made-Justice".

    Here is a snippet:

"Jack Doppelt, a media ethics professor at Northwestern University, called Mr. Trump a “great example” of a wealthy figure who has used the civil legal system to his advantage, and added Mr. Thiel to that group.

“Donald Trump knows that if he sues somebody for something, it will drown the other side,” Mr. Doppelt said. “He’s got the resources to be able to do that. It’s a real distortion of what we want our civil legal system to be about.”

Some New York Times readers argued that the case (see link below) was the latest example of a flawed justice system.

“Whether the case is civil or criminal, the key to the courthouse door is the dollar bill.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/27/business/media/thiel-gawker-fight-raises-concerns-about-press-freedom.html

PS: BTW and IMO, Scotland Yard's conclusions will only follow after the Portuguese STJ has given its verdict on the McCanns' versus Amaral civil court case.

By keeping the investigation (as if) ON, Scotland Yard are hoping to influence the Portuguese Supreme Court - assuming they are that gullible, that is.

The contempt with which (some) British officials treat other countries and cultures often borders on the arrogant-pathetic but, we have seen it working before, have we not? Kudos to their reputation managers...

  20. Sir Clement Freud exposed as a paedophile as police urged to probe Madeleine McCann links

Sir Clement Freud, the former broadcaster and politician, was exposed on Tuesday night as a paedophile who sexually abused girls as young as 10 for decades.

Freud, who died in 2009, spent years abusing a girl who he brought up as a daughter, and violently raped a teenager while he was an MP.

His widow, Lady Freud, has apologised to his victims, saying she is “shocked, deeply saddened and profoundly sorry” for what her husband of 58 years did to them.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been alerted to the fact that Freud had a villa in Praia da Luz, Portugal, the resort where the three-year-old went missing in 2007.

He befriended the McCanns in the weeks after their daughter went missing, entertaining them at his house on two occasions and keeping in contact by phone and email.

The McCanns are said to be “horrified” by the discovery that Freud was a paedophile.

His family, who include the PR executive Matthew Freud, have said that Freud was not in Portugal at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance and that they have not been contacted by police.

However, officers from Operation Grange, the ongoing Metropolitan Police investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance, are expected to assess the new information before deciding if it may be relevant to the inquiry.

Freud was unmasked as a child sex abuser after one of his victims contacted ITV’s Exposure documentary team, who also broke the story of Jimmy Savile’s paedophilia four years ago.

Sylvia Woosley said Freud befriended her family in 1948, when he was working at a hotel in the South of France, and started abusing her when she was 10.

Four years later, following a family crisis, her mother asked Freud and his wife Jill if they would look after Mrs Woosley, and she found herself living under the same roof as her abuser, being brought up as a daughter. The abuse continued until she managed to move away when she was 19.

Another woman told ITV that Freud started abusing her in the 1970s, when she was 11, and eventually raped her when she was 18, by which time he was a Liberal MP sharing an office with Cyril Smith, who was also unmasked as a paedophile after his death. The rape was so brutal that his victim bled for a week.

Both women’s accounts have been passed on to the Metropolitan Police.

Lady Freud said: “This is a very sad day for me. I was married to Clement for 58 years and loved him dearly. I am shocked, deeply saddened and profoundly sorry for what has happened to these women. I sincerely hope they will now have some peace.”

Freud, who was knighted in 1987, was best known as a popular panellist on the Radio 4 show Just a Minute from 1967 until his death in 2009.

The grandson of the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and the brother of the painter Lucian Freud, he worked his way into the heart of British society, and when he died the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, was among the mourners at his funeral.

His five children include Matthew Freud and the broadcaster Emma Freud.

A spokesman for the McCann family said they had not until now been aware of Freud’s child abuse and were not aware that he had ever been investigated by Operation Grange.

The Metropolitan Police did not respond to questions about Operation Grange, but former murder squad detective Colin Sutton said: "If this is something that investigators had not been aware of then it would be certainly a potential line of inquiry that would be worth pursuing.

"It is not something that ought to be taken lightly and you would also want to look any connections he may have had in the area at the time."
