Mari Luz Cortés: a tragic ending

The body of Mari Luz, who had disappeared on January 13 in Huelva, has been found by a vigilant security tanker dock of the Port of Huelva.

The girl was missing nearly for two months and has been found wearing the same clothes on the day of her disappearance.

Parents of the child have not made statements for the time being.

HUELVA, 07 (EUROPE PRESS) - the Civil Guard today located in an undetermined point of the Huelva coast the body of a girl who could be Mari Luz, the girl from Huelva who disappeared from Huelva in the 13 of January. Sources of the Subdelegation of the Government in Huelva said to Europe Press that someone sighted a body floating in the sea and gave warning to the Civil Guard, who, with a boat, is at the moment towing the body to the 'Muelle de Levante'. The same sources indicated that, although there is no confirmation, the first indications aim that the body is the one of the of five years old, Mari Luz.

Hispanidad: The body of Mari Luz has been transported to the mortuary of Huelva, for an autopsy that will definitely confirm her identity. Her parents were grieving intensely, but it was not necessary for the sanitary authorities to help them. There were some moments of great tension at the Quay, especially when the child's grandparents confronted the police for 'not having searched for the child on boats and around the quay areas, like the family insisted'.

actualidad.terra.es: The corpse of Mari Luz presents a hard blow on the head, that is visible despite the advanced state of decomposition of the body.

RTP: The City Hall of Huelva has decreed 3 days of official mourning for Mari Luz.
Huelva mayor Pedro Rodriguez said the child had been struck on the head but the cause of death was not known. Rodriguez declared three days of mourning starting Saturday.

Autopsy to be carried out on Mari Luz Cortés today

The body of the missing five year old was found on Friday afternoon, still wearing the same clothes as on the day she disapperared, 50 days ago
An autopsy is to be carried out today, Saturday, on the body of Mari Luz Cortés, the five year old from Huelva who went missing from her home in the El Torrejón area of the city on 13th January during a short trip to the local sweets kiosk, and whose body was found on Friday afternoon, floating in water in the Torrearenilla marshland, in a river close to the Cepsa refinery installations, by a person on board a passing merchant boat. It was brought to shore by the Maritime Guardia Civil.

Civil Guard sources have confirmed that the body was badly composed and was wearing the same clothes as on the day she disappeared fifty days earlier.

As soon as news of the find was released the parents of Mari Luz, Juan José and Irene, rushed to the scene, while other local people from the district where she lived also went en masse to the family home to support the family. There were scenes of great pain and emotion as the tragic find was confirmed. The grandparents challenged the Guardia Civil at the scene for, as they put it, not searching the marshlands from the first day, as they claimed the family had called for insistently. After the body was identified by the family and the judge, the body was taken to the Huelva crematorium.

Reports indicate that the body showed a blow to the head, and had been in the water for some time. A full autopsy is to be carried out on Saturday to establish the cause of death. In the case that she was assassinated, DNA remains of her aggressor will be searched for. However it is also thought that the currents could have taken the body of the girl to where it was found from the drainage waterways from close to where she lived, raising the possibility that it could have been a tragic accident.

Huelva city hall has declared three days of mourning. City Mayor, Pedro Rodríguez, said it was a very sad day and that the worst possible outcome had been seen in the case.

The family spokesman, Luis Molina, said that the family were ‘bad and destroyed’ by the news, and he calle don the press and the locals to ‘respect their pain’, and give them peace at such a dreadful time.

You can leave a message of support for the family in the official site for Mari Luz.

  2. McCanns in prayers for Spanish girl

Gerry and Kate McCann have offered their prayers and sympathy to the family of a missing five-year-old Spanish girl whose body is reported to have been found.

A spokesman for the McCanns said they were aware of reports that the body of Mari Luz Cortes had been discovered in the southern Spanish city of Huelva, just 120 miles away from where their daughter Madeleine disappeared.

Reports in the Spanish media said a body found by an oil refinery worker had been identified as that of Mari Luz, who disappeared on January 13.

Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, sent Mari Luz's parents messages of support after her disappearance and the British couple had also planned to include her in their poster campaign in Spain.

The McCanns' spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said: "Kate and Gerry are aware of the reports and it's clearly very upsetting for them.

"Their thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.

"Kate and Gerry had kept a very close eye on the search for Mari Luz and they felt there was a degree of connection between the two families.

"They sent messages of support after she went missing."

  3. It has only been in the news for 5 hours about the recovery of Mari Luz's body and there are already 3 Articles (like press releases), more to follow no doubt. It should be about Mari Luz and her grieving family.

Remember that the McCanns used the image of Mari Luz without their consent, the Cortés family didn't want to be side by side with child neglectors and possible criminals.

It's another hypocrisy from the McCanns, they stole the investigation from Mari Luz, spreading press releases spinning the Huelva/Lagos connection, Gerry in his blog didn't even bother to spell the name of Mari Luz correctly. They are an opportunistic couple, they trade their daughter as a brand, abuse innocent people in a KKK hunt for an imaginary suspect, they prey on family tragedies in an exploitatory manner, yet when Fatima Teixeira asked for there help regarding her missing son they didn't even bother to answer to her letter. And now again, they use Mari Luz death to be yet again sanctified in the media.

  4. “It is shameful that Mari Luz’s father has brought himself to complain,” was the reaction of Clarence Mitchell.

    Maddie's parents in cash offer
    By Tom Carlin

The parents of Maddie McCann yesterday pledged cash to boost the hunt for Shannon.

Gerry and Kate, whose daughter has been missing for 10 months, are "deeply concerned" at the plight of Shannon's family.

Kate, 39, said: "My heart goes out to them.

We always hoped and prayed that no other family would have to suffer like we have."

Money from the Find Madeleine Fund could perhaps pay for a massive poster campaign.

Shannon's mum Karen will contact the McCanns to discuss the possibilities.

She said: "It's fantastic that they are offering to help us in this way."

Board members of the Maddie fund will now be asked to approve donations to Karen.

McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "Kate and Gerry have no control over the money. The board will want to know what it is needed for."

The fund now stands at £544,000. That is less than half the amount it contained soon after Maddie, then three, vanished in Portugal on May 3 last year.
