Too Young To Be Alone: McCanns Culpable

Question: At What Age is it Safe to Leave Children Home Alone?

Answer: According to the National Child Care Information Center, and the National SAFEKIDS Campaign recommends that no child under the age of 12 should be left home alone.

Madeleine McCann, age 3, was left in her hotel room with her two-year-old twin siblings. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children says that Neglect is when when parents or others looking after children do not provide them with proper food, warmth, shelter, clothing, care and protection, and that accidents are the leading cause of death for children. Did the McCanns keep their children safety in their minds at all times? What kind of parents leave three children with a combined age of seven alone night after night while they go out to drink and dine with friends? Isn't it hypocritical and even preposterous that after failing their own children the McCanns publicly stated that they now seek to take up a career with children's charities as figureheads? (from their site: "we are working closely with the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Centre for Child Exploitation and Online Protection and other non-governmental agencies throughout Europe")
An US Social Worker says the McCann's are Culpable for the disappearance of their daughter and for Neglect. Watch the video:

"You just don't neglect your children in that way"

  1. The law in Portugal says that it is a criminal offense, punishable by fine or incarceration or both, to leave a child under the age of 12 alone.Kate McCann has admitted on several occasions they have often left their children alone while they attend dinner parties.According to Portuguese law, a defendant faces up to 10 years in jail if a child dies as the result of being abandoned. Fortunately for the McCanns there is no concrete proof that Madeline is dead. According to an official spokesperson:

"The fact the McCanns were made arguidos means that there are justified suspicions against them of committing a crime"

    From the Portuguese Penal Code:

é punido com pena de prisão de 1 a 5 anos.

2 - Se o facto for praticado por ascendente ou descendente, adoptante ou adoptado da vítima, o agente á punido com pena de prisão de 2 a 5 anos.

    a) By exposing her in a place where the person is subject to a situation which she cannot defend herself from on her own; or

is punished with a prison term of 1 to 5 years.

    a) Serious offence to the physical integrity, the agent is punished with a prison term of 2 to 8 years;
    b) Death, the agent is punished with a prison term of 3 to 10 years.

A witness to the exposure and abandonment and careless neglect by the McCanns:

The tapas waiter who served the McCanns while they dined on the night of their daughter's disappearance, has said the McCanns left their young family alone while they ate with friends on a number of nights.

He said the fathers in the group usually checked on the welfare of the children every 20 minutes and could not recall Kate McCann returning to check on the children except on the night of May 3 -- the night of Madeleine's disappearance.

Jose Baptista served at the tapas bar and told The Sun newspaper the McCanns had dined with friends at a poolside table with friends for four nights.

"There was a big round table near the pool,"Mr Baptista told the newspaper.

"The McCanns and their friends had it every night. They obviously thought it was fine to leave the children in bed. They left their children alone for up to three hours every night. If I was in their position I wouldn't have done that," he said.

"Even though they were checking on their children, there was a lot of time they were alone, when someone could have taken them. The routine was set in stone. If somebody had been watching they would have been able to choose the right moment to take the child."
