Amaral in Vigo: 'Madeleine's parents are suspected of hiding the body'

The policeman who handled the McCann case, before being removed, affirmed that there are indications of negligence.

F. FRANCO / VIGO Before being removed from the investigation of the Madeleine case, the policemen who were involved came to very firm conclusions. Madeleine died in the apartment of the Ocean Club, there was a simulation of an abduction, the McCann couple are suspected of participating in the concealment of the body, death could have occurred as a result of a tragic accident and there is evidence of negligence in the care and safety of the children.

These are the final theses defended by Gonçalo Amaral, the inspector removed from the so-called Madeleine case, the child who disappeared in the Algarve on May 3, 2007. The Coordinator of the investigation yesterday opened the new season at the FARO Club with a lecture - "The Truth of the Madeleine Mystery," after being introduced by the FARO journalist, Ujué Foces. Along the same lines and responding to a question, Amaral made it clear: "If I had done the politically correct thing I would not have had to retire but a criminal investigation is only committed to the truth. It should not be concerned about political correctness. But in this case other, not strictly police issues, have prevailed."

Amaral suspects that, five months after the incident took place on May 3, Portuguese political power had already decided on a strategy. "For me, the investigation was dead from October 2nd 2007, following a new English ultimatum. I have the feeling that the statements made by the national director of our national police sought to prepare public opinion for the inevitable, that is to say, the end of the investigation and the filing of the case."

Responding to different questions, some generalisations, others specific, including some from Rosa Neira, the mother of the Vigo resident Déborah, who appeared dead in bizarre circumstances, Amaral also gave his impression on the McCann couple, the parents of the girl. "They are normal people, parents who have lost a daughter whom they certainly loved very much and for whom they have cried, and they feel guilty for that. The father wanted to save at least the rest of the family, the children who are left."

The inspector was referring to the possible negligence for having left the children alone while they had a system of checking every so often but, above all, the suspicion of the concealment of the body falling on them.

Amaral said that the fact that McCanns would be considered as "charged" created a turning point in the investigation between the Portuguese and English police. "There was a spoken understanding between two policemen to continue the line of investigation seriously, facing the possibility that her death had occurred in the apartament but, suddenly, the English changed course without any coherent technical explanation. It was always strange how the couple were treated, even after they were considered suspects, and the police information to which they occasionally had access."

Concerning the participation of the media he said that "a global phenomenon occurred, never before seen, in which the British press acted with very suspicious organisation, maintaining the thesis of the abduction. They said many things, truths and lies, and attended, in addition to the duty of information, disinformation campaigns that sought to discredit the criminal investigation and those responsible for them, considering them as a Third World country."

Questions that he had asked himself were reported or left hanging in the air: "How is it possible that a criminal investigation questions Portuguese justice, the Judicial Police and police cooperation between two countries with one of the oldest alliances in the world? What powers hindered and harmed such research? There is something disproportionate in this whole case... "

  1. According to Amaral they loved Madeleine very much and feel guilty. I cant buy that...they have had too much of s stiff upper lip. Emotions of bereavement are not so easily switched off or kept under wraps, they are all consuming and nothing will help only time. They were able to get their heads around it too soon for my liking, they wer able to laugh and joke too soon...the day of Madeleines birthday just 9 days later is a typical example, the tennis tournament he played in with the first few days....NO way did they gve a fuck about that child.

  2. Same cause, same effect in France ... (please, excuse my Google translation!)

    Antoine: his mother involves justice

    Thierry Zoccolan AFP / Archives
The mother of little Antoine, disappeared on September 11 at Issoire (Puy-de-Dome)in France, regrets that the prosecutor of Clermont-Ferrand "focuses its investigations to prove his involvement" at the expense of some tracks, a charge denied by the parquet. "It has focused its investigations to demonstrate our commitment to put us in custody and to ignore the results of the investigation that do not serve his hypothesis," says the young woman.
Contacted by AFP, the prosecutor of Clermont-Ferrand has defended these "accusations", recalling that "it is not (him) who heads the investigation," but the "two judges of instruction "in charge of the inquiry. "If it complains that the investigation does not, why refuse to answer certain questions gendarmes, this is not the best way," he added. "There are few surveys in which it was made as quickly as many resources, human, technical and the Institute of Criminal Research of the Gendarmerie (IRCG)", argued the magistrate, rejecting "the accusation that we do not seek Antoine. "
The prosecutor also explained that if the police did not trigger the alarm abduction, because "it fits very specific criteria, the certainty of a kidnapping and evidence to identify the perpetrator and it it has never had, "he said.

  3. "Political correctness" is a Labour government term. It's unheard of amongst the Portuguese where freedom of speech and choice is allowed to prevail - bar Mitchell enacting his threats to the contrary.

Mr Amaral is not given to making personal judgments, he draws conclusions on facts. His alleged comment "they are normal people" are not the conclusions drawn in his book - Truth of The Lie.

"Normal people" co-operate with the police, answer all questions and would have returned to enact the reconstruction.

Plagiarism continues .... spin and lies being the McCanns only means of defence. This, in itself, is 'abnormal'.

  4. It is immoral, to say the least, if the McCanns get away with murder, literally or figuratively.

It would also be an incentive for further similar cases. If they get away, others will try similar strategies.

    JUSTICE must prevail!

  5. Something in Mr Amaral late comments make me feel uneasy. There is something fishy here. Is Mr Amaral getting scared?
Very soon he is going to say that the couple are adorable loving parents...and all that was just a big big misunderstanding.
There is also some repetition and boredom in reading always the same questions and answers. Mr Amaral need a good PR. His wife may not be the right person for that.
Now Joana, will you publish this comment? of course not. You did never publish the one about his wife's letter.
Sabe qual é o problema minha cara?

“Sabe qual é o problema minha cara?

Joana, please allow me to translate the above remark to the majority of English readers of your blog:

“Do you know what the problem is my dear? Some people know this couple personally, their family and those around them. But to you, that wouldn’t interest you in publishing, would it?”

Another demonstration of how stupidity is much more fascinating than intelligence. The latter is limited. The first, as per example given, limitless.

Sir/Ma’am, apologize for being unable to stoop to your level, though I honestly tried, and totally fail to understand where or what in the hell are you threatening, or even implying with your statement.

However, since you personally know all those that hold the truth between them, please pay justice a huge service and step forward. As you speak Portuguese, and not being aware of a significant community of that nationality at Rothley, I can only, and I’m totally speculating here, deduce that I’m speaking DIRECTLY to a person that in Portugal helped the couple with their criminal intent.

Please place a flower at Madeleine’s grave for me. You might well be one of only a handful of people who know exactly where her remains are.

    Thank you

    Yours truly
