Hunt for detective to head Maddy probe - Sunday Express

By Brendan Abbott
Sunday October 19, 2008

Kate and Gerry McCann are reviewing their strategy as no major breakthrough has emerged in the hunt for Madeleine.

Millionaire businessman Brian Kennedy, their financial backer, is seeking a former high-ranking police detective to mastermind the private investigation.

He has interviewed several candidates and will see more in the coming weeks. Whoever takes on the job faces the mammoth task of assessing information gathered by many private detectives since Madeleine vanished 18 months ago.

The investigator will also have to read thousands of pages of Portuguese police files released in August and painstakingly translated.

The family's spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the investigation was continuing in many countries as the McCanns study the files line by line.

Heart specialist Mr McCann said in his blog report last week: "Kate and I have been incredibly busy over the last couple of months since the files were made public.

"We and our family have always vowed to leave no stone unturned in the search for our daughter and knowing exactly what has been done and, more importantly, what has not been done is vital in planning our future strategy."

'The Tapas Seven' - An apology Sunday Express
Sunday October 19, 2008

In articles published on 16 September and 2 December 2007 we suggested that Russell O'Brien and Jane Tanner, the holiday companions of Kate and Gerry McCann, might be named as official suspects by the Portuguese police investigating Madeleine's disappearance and that Dr O'Brien might have helped to cover up the true facts.

We now accept that these suggestions should never have been made and were completely untrue.

We apologise to Russell O'Brien and Jane Tanner to whom we have agreed to pay substantial damages which they will be donating to the Find Madeleine Fund.

FBI Psychics turn up new Maddy suspect Sunday Express
(appears in paper edition only - pages 4 & 5)

EXCLUSIVE From Mike Parker in Los Angeles

Psychics have given police a picture of a man they say could have kidnapped Madeleine McCann. They have also given officers an address where they say Madeleine was held by a kidnapper.

The two investigators work closely with the FBI in America. A US TV show arranged for them to spend a week in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine disappeared last year.

Madeleine's parents say they want a copy of the drawing for their own team of private detectives.

FBI mediums and the face of Maddy 'killer'

SUSPECT: The man psychics say killed Madeleine

A DRAWING of a man two FBI psychics say snatched Madeleine McCann has been produced by an American TV programme.

Now investigators working for Kate and Gerry McCann say they want to see the so-called evidence revealed in the programme, which was screened last week in the US.

The drawing is of a man aged between 36 and 42 with thick dark brown or black hair and stubble. It has now been handed over to police in Portugal.

It was produced by two psychic criminal protilers who work closely with the FBI in America.

A spokesman for the McCanns said that although they were deeply sceptical of information from psychics, they want their private
investigators to examine the information which was broadcast.

"If they have given their files to the police in Portugal they should also pass them on to our investigators," said Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns spokesman, who gave a brief interview to the programme makers.

The programme says the man has a pronounced accent and looks and sounds Middle Eastern, possibly Egyptian, and drives a mid-sized dark silver car with a parking permit or some other identifying sticker inside the windscreen on the driver's side.

He 'may have been wearing a blue, button-up shirt and working as a transient labourer close to the apartment in Praia cia Luz on the Algarve where Madeleine was staying with her family before vanishing on May 3.

The report given to Portuguese police says the man is known as Steve or Stay and took the child to a summer rental apartment in the nearby village of Lagos.

The team, clairvoyant Carla Baron, psychic John J Oliver and
paranormal investigator Patrick Burns spent a week in Portugal, starting their inqµiries at the Ocean club resort where the McCanns had been staying.

Ms Baron said she immediately picked up on the vision of "Steve" or "Stav" stalking the family and photographing Madeleine at the beach before snatching her several days later.

Ms Baron said: "He snapped off a cell phone photo while looking like he was making a call.

"I also see him taking notes on a small notepad as he watched the comings and goings of the McCann family to see what their routine was."

When he finally pounced at night, while Madeleine's parents were in a nearby restaurant, Ms Baron and Mr Oliver said the little girl did not even wake up as he crept into the children's bedroom and picked her up.

Mr Oliver: "He took her to his car. There were people walking who saw him but he just looked as if he was a father carrying a sleeping child and they didn't take any notice."

They say the abductor placed Madeleine in the front passenger seat of his dark silver car, which may have had even darker or black trim.

Mr Oliver said he believes that the abductor may have stopped briefly at a deserted farmhouse east of the town before driving to his eventual destination - a furnished room rented out during the summer in nearby Lagos.

Executives at Tru Tv, part of media tycoon Ted Turner's CNN network, which makes the Haunting Evidence programme, passed the apartment address to police but withheld it from transmission.

The psychics say she was murdered there by being smothered by a pillow several days after her abduction because the man feared he would be caught.

Ms Baron believes the man then bundled her into the boot of his car and drove to a remote area, close to a landfill and manmade dam, where he buried her. This location has also been passed to police.

The FBI takes psychic evidence seriously and all three members of the Haunting Evidence team have been used in major criminal investigations.

Searching Maddy questions

DEVELOPMENTS in the search for Madeleine McCann, who vanished in Portugal last year, are to be welcomed. However, the fact the latest information comes from a team of psychics and has just been screened on an American television programme does give pause for thought. What must never be forgotten is that a little girl vanished that night and no trace has ever been found. The search for Maddy must go on.

  2. If you don't put the McCanns behind bars this nonsense will never stop. We shall for ever have private investigators, 'sightings' and 'suspects'.

  3. If the McCanns were innocent, they would request the services of the British police force which has far more resources than a lone detective or a Spanish agency.

Because they have not made this request on behalf of their missing daughter, I am convinced they are seriously involved in Maddie's demise.

When a parent fails to request the services of a missing child's country, the responsibility falls to the court. Why hasn't the court made this request?

  4. This business - yes, it's a business venture, a marketing ploy, a commercial enterprise - will never stop unless certain people gain the courage to SPEAK OUT. There are many people who are keeping little secrets in this case; people that were not involved in the crime, but in the cover-up. People that have been sworn to silence.

Please, for the sake of one innocent child, in the name of all children, do come forward and speak the truth.

  6. IIG Special Investigation

    Carla Baron, Psychic Detective (?)

The Independent Investigations Group has been examining the public claims of Carla Baron – a self-proclaimed “psychic detective” who has solved fifty cases in the past twenty years, or has solved no cases in the past three years, depending on whether you believe her or us.

Baron claims to have worked on numerous cases, most of which involve either missing persons or homicides with no suspect. Most of the cases involve a victim who is young and female, and typically Baron is working directly with the family. We tracked every claim Baron has made publicly that we are aware of and contacted the official police investigator assigned to the case whenever possible. We have contacted media professionals who have done work with or about Baron and researched articles that refer to her. In some cases, we have also contacted friends and families of the victims.

    NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON
BARON’S CLAIM: Baron states in her publicity materials that she worked on the “O.J. Simpson Case.” She has also said that she “did some channeling work”5 on the case. When asked for specifics at a seminar on March 20, 2004, she said that she worked with the Brown family.

IIG'S FINDINGS: We contacted Nicole’s sister, Denise Brown, the primary family spokesperson during the trials, and now an outspoken advocate for battered women and victims of violent crime. She states unequivocally, “I've never heard of this person,” and adds that no one in her family has ever heard of her either. It seems clear that Baron’s claim that she worked on the “O.J. Simpson Case” is baseless.

    JONBENET RAMSEY
BARON’S CLAIM: Baron told a student newspaper that she worked on a case “like the JonBenet Ramsey. . . case,”6 but could not state that she worked on the JonBenet Ramsey case specifically because it still “remains open.”7

IIG'S FINDINGS: The interviewer, Adam Smeltz, apparently insisted that she clarify the comment about JonBenet Ramsey, and she backed off. Interpreting this statement as a claim that she worked on the JonBenet Ramsey case, we contacted Detective Tom Bennett, who stated, “No psychic has provided any useful information,” adding that he had never even heard of Carla Baron.

    AMANDA “MANDY” TUSING
BARON’S CLAIM: In January of 2004, Susan Tusing contacted Carla Baron and received a telephone reading. During this conversation, Baron provided a name for the man Baron claims was the killer.8 This is significant since Baron’s claims are usually vague.

IIG'S FINDINGS: The investigation into the murder of Mandy Tusing had been going for years without resolution. Family members and police investigators are very frustrated at this point and willing to try anything, which may explain why Detective Etter was willing to talk to Carla Baron at Susan Tusing’s request. The local media ran several stories on Baron’s involvement when Detective Etter began communicating with her.

We talked to Detective Etter both before and after police interviewed the man fingered by Baron. After the interview, Detective Etter claims that there was “no way he could have done it.” Media coverage of the case and Baron's involvement stopped after Detective Etter cleared this man of all suspicion. Interestingly, this man was looked at years earlier, but the police didn’t feel he was a viable suspect. They interviewed him recently only at the urging of Susan Tusing.

In our interview, Detective Etter made it sound like Baron produced a letter of the alphabet and that Susan Tusing then volunteered the name. However, Detective Etter specifically said that Baron’s conversation with Susan Tusing was not a “cold reading.” Without a transcript, we cannot say for sure.

Etter still has a positive attitude about Baron’s involvement. He says that she helped garner publicity for the case, which is true. The local press paid little attention to the case until they could print “Mother of slain woman finds comfort from psychic.”9

For the most part, Detective Etter praised Baron, but he also opined that she wants to “gain media attention. . . ;” “she wants recognition” because “that’s where you make your money.” Nonetheless, he insists that Baron was “trying her best to help.”

  7. FSS information - Truth of The Lie:

FSS identified the genetic profile of 'two' others comprising 22 components alongside 15 component DNA match to Madeleine. Police would have taken DNA samples of those closely associated with the case, as a matter of course.

Mr Amaral states that certain results were withheld, including hair specimens. LCN used in Madeleine's case led to the discovery of three genetic profiles in the specimens - Madeleine's and 'two' others.
Their ID was withheld from PJ despite the fact they must have been directly involved in the forensic evidence of death and disposal.

There was no 'abductor' - Kate's were the only prints found on the window. Corrupt, misleading articles continue .....

  8. anonymous,

All those perverting the course of justice in this case, wasting police time at mind blowing expense to Portuguese & British taxpayers should he held accountable.

Brown despatched his media advisor/monitor to run the 'soap opera' and his waste of taxpayers is very well recorded.

  10. Why has it taken Carla Baron nearly 18 months to envisage that which she psycically claims to have existed on 3 May ? The 'soap opera' has entered surreal realms indeed.

Back to earthly reality - Kate's were the only prints found on the window - there was no 'abductor'.

Genuine psychics work for the good, especially those alleged to assist the police ... this person clearly isn't one of them.

  11. People, people, calm down...

Read this as it should be read: they are scraping the borrom of the barrel.

Just one more degree to stoop down to: abduction by aliens.

I'm sorry, but I can only laugh. Apologise. The issue is serious. Joana, its your fault. I simply cannot stop smirking.

Mr. Kennedy, you looking for a good detective? I got one just right for you: a Mr. Gonçalo Amaral. Heard that he's retired, is fluent in Portuguese and has some experience on the field.

And if YOU let him, I'm sure he'll catch the criminals in a jiffy. But YOU (could not write it any bigger) have to let him...

  19. The photo of the suspect that according to psychics killed Maddie - is that meant to be Gerry McCann? He looks a bit like him but there is scope for improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, so that's the 'Smith sighting' sorted out then. It couldn't have been Gerald after all - just some Egyptian bloke who looked like him.

And psychic Kate was spot on about being observed by the dastardly pervert. Photographed even!

To borrow from Clarence 'they're either very brave or very stupid'.

The more nonsense they promote now, the more ferocious the backlash will be when, well you know:

knock knock knock . . 'Mr and Mrs McCann, I am arresting you on suspicion of . . .'

    ReplyDelete
  21. Since there are most definately no more donations flooding the fund, and there are only so many papers you can sue, the need for Maddie to be still alive is dwindling.

To start with the book series and the Movies there has to be a closure. Maybe her body will finally emerge, magically predicted by some psychics?

  22. There is so much nonsense in these articles I didn't have the patience to read them all. The lengths these people go to, to either save their reputations or con the public out of their money, is unbelievable.

  23. You know, this psychic photo of the alledged "kidnapper" is what we in the critical-thinking world call "Last Resort" and "Desparate Measure" but you know the funny thing about this photo? It looks like Gerry McCann.

  24. Excuse me for being thick but what is exactly going on here. The psychics seem to have got somethings right.

    1. There was a big silver car, the dogs sniffed it out.

    2. Gerry has a blue button up shirt, he is wearing it on one of his photos.

    3. We now that a bloody towel was found at a farmhouse or barn

4.The picture is not too much like gerry`s ugly mug but take alook at the photo of gerry on "I Have something to say¬s", blogger of your blagger 15/10/08

    5. Can we deduce from this that Madeleine is burried at lagos then?
