Quote of the Day - Looking back on the Madeleine Case

The iris “is Madeleine’s only true distinctive feature. Certainly we thought it was possible that this could potentially hurt her or”—he grimaces—“her abductor might do something to her eye.… But in terms of marketing, it was a good ploy.”

Gerry McCann in Vanity Fair, 10 January 2008

  1. How could any father utter those words in connection with his missing daughter - a good marketing ploy. They were advised NOT to publicise her eye defect but they did. Words failed me at the time I heard this and they still fail me. What does that say about this man(I use the word loosely, very loosely).

  2. Good Morning Carol,

Indeed how can he think of his daughter as a brand, a logo for a media campaign?

  3. How can a father EVER do anything that might hurt his daughter?

  4. Oh no - this .... face AGAIN and this unbelievable comment AGAIN - I am runnng out of words this Easter Sunday.

  5. There have been so many unbelievable sayings emanating from team mccann, but this one, for me, is the most disturbing of the lot. To acknowledge that a chosen action is likely to cause pain and suffering to your daughter, but to go ahead with it anyway just beggars belief. It is just a further indication that he is aware that there was no abductor, that no-one can actually hurt Madeleine any more, imo

  6. Yet he believes it is quite possible that Madeleine is unharmed!!!
Disgusting, callous, poor excuse of a father!

  7. Dispicable. And yet I read today in the Sunday Express that 'devastated Gerry McCann wants to re-open the investigation'.

How come it's always the Express that prints such junk?

It wouldn't be part of a deal struck by the McCann lawyers by any chance? My little bluebird brain-cells say Yes, and if so when the inevitable truth comes out, wow - just sit back and watch the fireworks!

As the saying goes - 'revenge is a dish best served cold.' We'll see.
